St. Luke Weekly SMORE
January 30, 2022
Leadership Message
This week St. Luke staff and students will be spending two days in Eucharistic Adoration this week. Each class will have time to spend with Jesus in prayer.
What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Eucharistic Adoration is when we spend time in prayer with Jesus in the form of the Blessed Sacrament. You can pray in any Catholic Church or Chapel for a short amount of time or a long amount of time. Jesus could be in a Tabernacle or a Monstrance while we are praying. While it is true that you can pray to God anywhere and that He is always within you, it is especially powerful to adore Jesus in the Eucharist. In the presence of the Eucharist, we pray to the power and sacrifice that it represents — the body of Jesus, who gave His life so that we may live.
Please join our St Luke community for our Eucharistic Adoration Mass on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 9:00 am via Google Meet Link.
Blessings,
Mrs. Cathy Hinger
Principal
Staff Change
On Friday we had a very quick staff change here at St. Luke. Mr. Brant Driedger has accepted a position with Holy Redeemer and will be transferring schools as of February 1. Mr. Driedger has been a large part of our school community for many years and will be dearly missed here at the school by all our staff and students. We wish Mr. Driedger all the best as he starts his new position. We will welcome back to St. Luke Mr. Mason Hawkes who will be taking over Mr. Driedger teaching assignments as of February 1.
Progress Report Card
A Progress Report Card is a culmination of on-going assessments capturing student learning to this point. It is a culmination of on-going assessments in the classroom and are meant to encapsulate the learning of the student over the first term.
This will be an opportunity to celebrate your child’s successes and an opportunity to set learning goals for the second term. Our hope is that these reports and conversations with your child and to inform parents know how their child is doing, what area they need to improve in and how the school and the home can work as a team to support the student in this process. The ongoing dialogue between teacher, student and parent helps to create a wonderful learning community where progress is celebrated and future goals can be set. Students are always encouraged to look at their work to learn with a critical eye and self-reflect on how they can improve. As a school staff, we are there for support and to encourage all students in their academic success.
Progress Report Cards will be emailed to parents as well as made accessible through Powerschool on Friday, February 4. As a family please take some time to look over the Progress Report Card with your child and assist them with setting goals for term two.
EICS Assurance Survey
As part of the Elk Island Catholic School Assurance process, we would like to invite you to participate in a survey being sent to you through an email. Results from this survey will be used to inform planning at the school and divisional level for the 2022/2023 school year. This survey is provided to all grade 4-12 students, all staff, and all parents in our division.
Thank you for your participation.
WAYS TO WELLBEING: 'KEEP LEARNING'
This week the focus of our well being will be to ‘Keep Learning’. Learning is good for our minds and our bodies – it’s good for our mental wellbeing. Learning has been shown to have a number of benefits to our sense of wellbeing and life satisfaction:
Increases our self-esteem
Encourages social interaction
Gives us a sense of hope and purpose
Better ability to cope with stress
Learning something new each day can be really good for our wellbeing, as it helps us view the world from a range of perspectives, makes it easier to adapt to new situations and inspires creativity within us.
Here are some ways to Keep learning
learn a new word each day
visit a museum or art gallery
try out a musical instrument
do a word search
try a new food
write a story or song
learn to cook a new recipe
