This provision was passed with the COVID relief bills earlier this year and has significant changes from the old child tax credit. The value has increased, families don’t need any income to receive it, and it comes as a monthly payment to families to give support throughout the year instead of just in April.

Economists estimate that this new tax credit will cut child poverty in half in the U.S. But many families don’t know about it, or don’t know that they are still eligible even if they didn’t file their taxes last year. That’s why it’s so important to get the word out. FYI- note that families need to be enrolled by November 15.
