Happy Advent
It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!
- As you probably can guess, our children are getting VERY excited for Jesus' birthday. As a school, we have a door decorating contest sponsored by our Student Council underway. Rein "dear" are popping up in the hallways and this morning I became aware of a sneaky elf that's visiting our first grade classroom. The children spotted him next to their class manger right by the Baby Jesus. The elf even left pencils for the boys and girls. Good times!
- Our Parish Christmas tree will be lit this Sunday following the Fifth Grade Family Mass at 10:30 p.m. Thank you to Mrs. Hunter's Fifth Graders for serving as lectors and gift bearers this Sunday. It will be great to see all of our families there.
- I also have it on good authority St. Nicholas will make a stop on Tuesday morning. I'll ask all of our students, teachers, and staff to leave one shoe outside our classrooms. We'll see what happens.
- Our PreK-8 Christmas Program is Tuesday, December 6th. We ask that children are in their designated pews by 6:15 p.m. The Program begins at 6:30 p.m.
- Our Student Council will make Christmas cookies for the Lansing Police and Fire Departments. The 8th Grade Executive Board Members will join Fr. Bill and me in delivering the cookies to the station houses on Thursday.
- Speaking of cookies, you will not want to miss the St. Ann Cookie Walk after masses (12/10, 12/11). What is it about Christmas cookies and a ice cold glass of milk?
- Our traditional kindergarten "Angels and Shepherds Mass" will take place on Saturday, December 24th.
Calendar Change (February 10/February 17)
- February 10, 2017 we will be in session. There will be a junior high dance from 4-7 p.m.
- February 17, 2017 we will NOT be in session. This a teachers' In-Service Day. Our teachers will be attending a Technology Summit for Catholic Schools co-sponsored by Marian Catholic High School and Apple that day. That evening there will be an HSA sponsored Daddy/Daughter Dance in the St. Ann School Hall from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Details to follow.
(Basically, the two dates' activities were exchanged in order for all of our teachers to attend the technology event. Thank you in advance.)
Roughrider News Briefs:
- Please please please send your child to school dressed for an outdoor recess. Warm coats (not a hoodie or sweatshirt) along with a hat, scarf, gloves, etc. are necessary now. If temperatures (and the wind-chill) are at/above 32 degrees, we'll play outside. Fresh air makes a world of difference for an afternoon of learning and allows children to do what they do best: utilize their energy!
- I ask that if you need to speak to a teacher, an appointment is made with the teacher first. Please do not try to speak to a teacher right before school (7:40-8:00 a.m.) The teachers' responsibility is to supervise her class at that time. Many of our students begin some time of activity, bell-ringer task, the moment they enter the classroom. Hence it's not a conducive time for a conference with a teacher.
- There will be an all-student Mass on Thursday, December 8th at 9 a.m. in celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. All parents are invited to join us for this Holy Day of Obligation.
- Grades 3-8 Students will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Monday, December 12th at 9 a.m.
- Our next Home and School Association Meeting will be held on Monday, December 12th at 7 p.m. Please enter the building via door "C3."
- Please plan on attending a fundraising meeting on Tuesday, December 13th, at 7 p.m. in Church. This meeting is to finalize plans for our "Night at the Palace" event which will take place on Saturday, March 4th. Your ideas are needed as well as volunteers to assist us make this spectacular event occur.
- This month's Supper Club is on Thursday, December 15th at Five Guys in Munster, IN.
- There will be no afternoon Extended Day services on Thursday, December 15th.
- Thank you for helping us to recycle paper and cardboard. We received a check for $45.20 from Midwest Paper Retriever. We were able to save 153.7 trees!

- SchoolMessenger Phone Call - A recorded message is sent to your specified numbers
- Facebook - Like us at Saint Ann Catholic School, Lansing
- Remind - Teachers often will post a closure to their Remind texting accounts
- Please do not call the school to see if school is open; more than likely we are not at school when the decision for an emergency closing is made.
