Shawnee Mission School District - Search for a New Superintendent
An important part of the search process to find an ideal superintendent is developing a profile of characteristics most desired in candidates. The district is interested in hearing from the community – your opinion is important to us.
The Shawnee Mission Board of Education invites members of the community to attend any of the following community meetings:
Tuesday, September 26
4:30 p.m. – SM North Library, 7401 Johnson Drive
6:15 p.m. – SM East Library, 7500 Mission Road
8:00 p.m. – SM South Library, 5800 W. 107th Street
Thursday, September 28
6:15 p.m. – SM West Library, 8800 W. 85th Street
8:00 p.m. – SM Northwest Library, 12701 W. 67th Street
In addition, community members may complete an online survey, provided below. The link to the survey will be available from noon September 22 until October 20.
We value your input and thank you in advance for your participation.

Walk to School Day
Why do we have this day?
- to promote physical activity
- to review/teach the safety skills of walking to school
- to make us aware of how walkable our community really is
- to reduce traffic congestion, speed and pollution near schools
- to share time with parents, friends and teachers
Our goal is for as many kids to walk or bike to school on this day.
- Remember, no one walks alone—plan to have your child walk with at least one buddy or parent!
- You may plan events in the neighborhood or meeting places. Let Ms. Darby or Ms. Calamaio know if you plan to have something and we will be sure to send a teacher that way (*no more than a 10 minute walk).
- Teachers will meet at the corner of Widmer and Candlelight and at the intersection of 87th and Candlelight, around 7:50, to walk with kids the rest of the way.
- If your child rides the bus and you want him/her to participate, please make other arrangements, like meeting at someone’s house that is within walking distance of Rising Star, for that day.
If you have questions please call the office.
Thanks!

3rd GRADE BIKE RODEO
Third graders will soon be learning about bicycle safety in the classroom. The BIKE RODEO is a fun way for them to practice what they have learned by maneuvering their bike around an obstacle course under the direction of Officer Derrick Pierce, the School Resource Officer from the Lenexa Police Department.
Upon completion of the course, each student will receive an official “CITY of LENEXA BICYCLE LICENSE”! The “license” gives students the privilege of riding their bike to and from school.
