College Fair and Open House
During the day Nov. 11, NCC students visited with representatives from schools of higher education and the military. Students prepared resumes and questions for the guests and many positive comments were made about their professionalism!
In the evening that day, NCC welcomed 164 potential students and more than 400 guests to NCC for an open house. Many of NCC's current students were in attendance to share about their programs and were wonderful representatives of our school!

Program Spotlight: Health Sciences
Our Program - Health Sciences
Northland Career Center offers a one or two-year program for students wanting to explore the health industry.
The Health Sciences program focuses on building students' knowledge and skills as a nurse as well as focusing on other areas of healthcare. Health Science students earn First Aid & CPR certifications and can earn CNA certification their first year. Students also have an option to return their second year to experience project-based learning and work-based learning (Internships).
Our Instructors - Mr. David Brown & Mrs. Lee Bledsoe
Mr. David Brown, MS-CTE, BSN, RN, was an instructor for the Practical Nursing program at NCC from 2013-2017. This is his fifth year teaching Health Sciences. He has more than 30 years of nursing experience. Before working at NCC, he worked as a CNA instructor and spent many years before that in acute care.
Mrs. Lee Bledsoe, MS-CTE, BSN, RN, joined the NCC staff in August 2016 as a PN instructor. This is also her fifth year teaching Health Sciences. Prior to NCC Mrs. Bledsoe worked in a variety of healthcare positions including in the hospital, home health, and long-term care, but her passion has always been teaching.
Our Alum - Ms. Courtney Hadley
"NCC’s Health Sciences program interested me because I could get my CNA here, and I knew it was valuable job that would better prepare me in my future career as a nurse," Hadley said. "I was also excited to learn more about the nursing field."
While at NCC, Hadley earned her CNA certification and worked as a CNA second semester at Liberty Hospital on the neuro/telemetry unit, which also doubled as the Main Covid-19 unit.
Following graduation she was able to continue working as a CNA and gain valuable bedside nursing skills as well as employability skills. She currently works as a CNA in the float pool at Mosaic Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri, finishing up sophomore year of college and preparing to start nursing school in January at Missouri Western State University.
Hadley said she treasures the day she passed her CNA exam at NCC, meeting friends and her instructors.
"I would recommend NCC to others because you will meet lifelong friends here who are like-minded and goal oriented, you will gain skills prior to working in your field of choice, and you will be extra appealing to future employers because of your background at NCC," Hadley said. "I also recommend NCC to anyone passionate about their future and who is ready to get a head start on it."

Program Spotlight: Teaching Professions
Our Program - Teaching Professions
Northland Career Center offers a program for students wanting to explore the teaching industry.
Teaching Professions students work in established local preschool classrooms, elementary, and middle schools to help gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in their chosen field. This program provides students with the coursework and internship hours to earn a Child Development Associate Credential or Youth Development Credential Certificate.
Our Instructor - Mrs. Ashley Dice
Mrs. Dice has been a teacher since 2013 and holds a valid teaching certificate in Missouri. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Missouri Western State University, her Master of Science in Educational Leadership (K-12) and Education Specialist degree in Superintendency from Northwest Missouri State University. Additionally, Mrs. Dice holds certification in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education 1-6, and K-8 Principal. She began teaching at Northland Career Center in 2016 and was recognized for Excellence in Classroom Teaching by the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2019, as well as being nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2019. Before coming to NCC, Mrs. Dice taught second-grade in the Savannah R3 School District.
Mrs. Dice is passionate about education and hopes to instill a love for teaching and learning with Teaching Professions students.
"I am so excited to begin this amazing journey with your child and look forward to helping them live their dreams!"
Our Alum - Mr. Nick Bolton
Mr. Nick Bolton graduated from NCC in 2020, knowing exactly what career field he should be in. The Winnetonka graduate credits NCC's Teaching Professions program for him entering college on a clear path.
"If I hadn’t gotten the chance to experience that during NCC my major in college would have probably changed multiple times," Bolton said.
Bolton is currently a sophomore majoring in Physical Education with a coaching minor at Northwest Missouri State University. He's expected to graduate in May 2024. He works as a University Police Dispatcher and is a student ambassador on campus.
Bolton credits NCC for giving him a head start on student teaching, and equipping him with a growth mindset and classroom management skills.
"I would most definitely recommend NCC to others because it’s a great way of putting yourself out there and getting that hands on experience," Bolton said.
