Black History Month Assembly & Artwork
It was a great pleasure to learn how to dance with Ms. Hinton and Mr. Bowen, We all had a lot of fun rehearsing after school. I learned new dance moves. The head piece was beautiful. I thought it would be hard to dance, but it turned out to be very easy. Overall, it was a great experience learning about another culture. -Mehwish T
To me it was a very exciting adventure. I love to dance and have learned many styles of dance but never soca. It was fun to see how people that are not in the same ethnicity as me dance. It help me get out of my comfort zone as a dancer. I also loved to see what they wear in events like that. The neck and head pieces were amazing and really out there. Overall, it was fun, informational, and a big learning opportunity to expand our minds about another culture. -Giovanni G
I had a lot of fun doing the dance in the Black History Month show. It was a pleasure to learn a dance from a different culture. I am so glad that I was a part of it and I believe that it was an amazing opportunity. It really shows how diverse Boone is. I was lucky to be a part of it because not everyone gets these types of opportunities. -Maria Q

Flexible Seating in Mr. Soto's 5th Grade Classroom
“Flexible Seating helps people concentrate. In my opinion it’s good. My favorite place to sit is in the rocking chair.” -Idalia R.
“I like it because kids focus more when they're sitting somewhere they're comfortable. Also because when kids get fidgety or need to move around they have the option to.” -Emily U.
“Fifth grade has recently been introduced to Flexible Seating. Flexible Seating is when students have alternative options for sitting and can sit where they feel most comfortable. In our opinion Flexible Seating is good because when you are comfortable you have the desire to learn, it also makes you excited about class. The students come to class on time and prepared. Here are some other opinions about Flexible Seating from other students in fifth grade.” -Bushra Q.
“In my opinion I think Flexible Seating is a great idea and every class in the school should have it. It helps me focus better and I feel more comfortable working. Flexible seating makes me excited to come to school.” -Noe O.
Argumentative Writing - Flexible Seating
Do your students find a way to escape the classroom? Do they lack participation in class? Do you want you students to get better grades and participate in class activities? Well you can do this by having flexible seating. More and more teachers are trying flexible seating. Flexible seating is when there are optional or alternative seating options in your classroom. You can have bean bags, couches, mats, and cozy corners instead of normal desk or chairs to help kids concentrate.
The article By The Dallas Morning says “ Several Hexter Elementary teachers have changed the seating in their classrooms. They hope the new seats help students stay focused. They let kids choose the seats that help them learn the best”. It’s a great idea for teachers to let students choose where they feel that they can learn the best.
In another article By Education World the teachers say things like “ I’ll never go back” or “it’s worked for me” and a teacher at Woodbury (MN) high school , Oskar Cymerman recommend to have things like high tables, rugs, and armchairs, He says “ Offer a room that look like Starbucks, but cooler.” Which will make students excited about class. It will make student come to class on time and prepared.
Finally, In the last article By Los Angeles Times, Grayson a 9 year old says “I don’t miss sitting at regular desks” “This is amazing, I like working at this giant table i've never seen a class do this before!”. His teacher Gladstone Lamas says that she noticed her students participating more and behaving better as well as being less restless and have more desire to be in class. She said that she could go through a whole sign-out sheet in 3 days. Now, though, the kids ‘never want to leave the classroom’” This evidence proves that students like the new seating and they don’t want to sit at normal desks. Students also feel more comfortable at where they are sitting, so they will pay attention better.
More and more teachers are trying out flexible seating. They say that students are paying attention more, leaving the classroom less, and being less restless. The students also like their new seatings, it’s a good opportunity for students and teachers to make learning better. In conclusion teachers should give flexible seating a try! -Ramisha I.
"You Be the Chemist" Club & Competition with Ms. Natividad
The program You Be The Chemist has been an amazing experience for me. I have learned several things. I loved being in this club not only once but twice. Ms.Natividad has always been kind and generous. She gave me confidence and supported everyone. Ms.Natividad's program is a learning opportunity that does not come often. In this club, we did many experiments. Every Friday morning the students came to Ms.Natividad’s room as it was our second home. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that this club was one of the best clubs ever created. -Yousra S
When I found out we were going to compete, I was a bit nervous, especially because it wasn’t an in school competition. After we began brainstorming ideas, I felt a bit eased. Our idea was to do a “magic trick” using a chemical called sodium polyacrylate. Sodium polyacrylate is an absorbent polymer most commonly used in diapers. It is also used in very cool things like the layers of the spacesuits NASA astronauts wear to prevent rashes during space flights. Going into the competition, I felt very confident with our presentation. I felt totally prepared because of Ms. Natividad's help and encouragement. The experience was so much fun and I learned a lot from watching other demonstrations during the competition. I would love to compete again, and possibly win next time! -Maheen Q
“Wonder” Review
My class and I have recently read the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio and I think every kid in the world should read the book. The book is about a boy named August Pullman who has Treecher Collins Syndrome. It’s a disease that causes the kid to have a deformed face. He is in 5th grade and is going to school for the first time. Throughout the book he goes through some rough times but he makes some good friends that have his back. The book teaches you to be kind and just because someone looks different doesn’t mean they should be treated differently. I really enjoyed reading and discussing this book with my class and I recommend this book to everyone. - 5th Grader Noe O.
