Feud Between Families Lead to Death
The Story of Romeo and Juliet
Hate Between Familys Meant Romeo and Juliet Could Never be Together
The feud between both the Capulets and the Montagues is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The two families hated each other for no reason and as adults it was really immature of them to let the reasonless hate still occur between them. When Juliet found out Romeo was a Montague she instantly knew that her parents would forbid her to love him only because of his last name. It was love at first sight for the two even though they are supposed to hate each other: "that I must love a loathed enemy" (Shakespearer 1. 5. 100). In this moment Juliet knew she could not live without being with Romeo. Romeo and Juliet could only be together in hiding and they had a secret wedding. After the wedding Juliet's parents chose to force Juliet into marrying a man she did not want to, "he shall not make me a joyful bride" (Shakespeare 3. 5. 117). All this time Juliet wanted to tell her parents about Romeo but she knew her parents would never allow them to be together. If Juliet's parents would have been understanding and ignored the feud then she wouldn't of had to go through with a dangerous plan to be together, that resulted in both of their deaths.
ALT-J and Juliet
The song "Breezeblocks" by Alt-J, the lyrics relate to the story of Romeo and Juliet. The line "She may contain the urge to run away but hold her down" relates to Romeo and Juliet wanting to run away together but the feud between their families are holding them down. "deny thy father and refuse my name; or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love"(Shakespeare 2. 2. 34). It could also relate to JulietĀ“s parents holding her down by forcing her into an unwanted marriage but planning to run away to be with Romeo.
Twilight can be compared to Romeo and Juliet
In the popular movie "Twilight" the situation that the main character Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) is in, is a lot like Romeo and Juliet's situation. In the movie both people Bella cared about most, hated each other. That made life really difficult for her. In Romeo and Juliet both of their families hated each other which made it hard for Romeo and Juliet's relationship. Neither the people Bella cared about or Romeo and Juliet's families could get along, "My life were better ended by their hate"(Shakespeare 2. 2. 77). This quote explains that even though it would be hard, Romeo would be hated if it meant he could be with Juliet. Also Bella had to live with the hate of the two people she cared most about.
