PBIS: Working with Parents and Teachers to Promote Positive Behavior
Whoever said it takes a village to raise a child knew what he/she was talking about. It has been no easy task for administration, teachers or parents to take on new roles during this already difficult time.
Parents and teachers have been busy this year promoting positive behavior in the classroom and at home. Below are some tips for teachers and parents to continue with helping each other in creating the best positive environment possible for the child. Parents and teachers:
Define behavior routines.
Communicate positive behaviors that are expected of the child in the learning environment at home and when he/she returns to school.
Work together to make the child accountable for his/her learning.
Reward the child with praise when completing work on time.. (We all like to be told how well we are doing.)
Model positive behaviors for students, they learn from you.
Pioneer Community please stay safe and remember Dr. Suess states: You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting so….Get on your way!!!

NC MAF, Pre-K, and Kindergarten
Hello everyone from NC MAF, Pre-K, Kindergarten!
We hope everyone is safe and doing well. We have been very busy with remote learning. Students are able to complete their remote learning using their I-Ready materials & packets or online using the Seesaw app. In addition to their I-Ready packets, students are completing lessons on Reading Eggs and the I-Ready computer component. Currently students are working on rhyming words, ocean life and place value. Teachers meet online weekly with students utilizing Google Meet and also communicate by phone and FaceTime. During these meetings students are able to ask questions about assignments, interact with their classmates and participate in activities. Partnering with resource classes, Ms. Wallwork, the P.E. teacher, sends weekly lessons for the students and we upload them to Seesaw. The students are enjoying CATCH, videos and movement activities shared by Ms. Wallwork. We all miss the daily interaction with our students and can’t wait to see them. We miss and love each of our students.

Happy Learners!
3rd Grade
Third grade has been working on several different skills in Math and ELA. Some of these skills include Cause/Effect and Multiplication. Using Google Hangout, we have been able to teach these skills through the use of anchor charts, whiteboards, and I-Ready tutorial videos. We are even playing Kahoot games and Quizzizz to review these concepts, and the kids love it!!
Science and Social Studies are integrated throughout the passages we are using from Readworks and NewsELA that are assigned in Google Classroom. Students are working on projects to share in each of the core subjects. For example:
ELA: the students are making story books using google slides.
Math: they are working on a math project about their favorite number.
Science: we have made a compass using a needle and a magnet.
Social Studies: students have learned about the history of Earth day. They drew pictures of trees and made an Earth collage as an art project.
Students without internet access have been working diligently as well. I-Ready Packets were sent home, as well as Choice Boards earlier this month. Many students, as well as parents have expressed the value of having something tangible for kids to work on. These resources have played an important role in keeping the learning going. Students have also been sharing pics of their cabbage plant projects as well as pics of them just spending time at home with loved ones. This has been a learning experience for us all, and we are so very proud of the progress our students are making!!
Overall, 3rd grade is trying to keep their students on track through remote learning with engaging lessons and assignments. We just want to say how much we love and miss you!!!!!!
