MMS Science Field Trip Opportunity - sign up today!
This year, our Science Club field trip is to the Sound to Sea Environmental Education Program held at Trinity Center and the NC Aquarium. Both facilities are located in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina. This barrier island is located south of Atlantic Beach. This trip is open to all 7th & 8th grade students at MMS!
We will be staying at the camp from February 7-9 and will stop at the Aquarium on the way home on Feb. 9th. The cost of the trip is $300. This includes food, housing and transportation. Please visit the camp website for more information regarding this program: http://www.trinityctr.com/soundtosea/
** Spots are still available! If interested, please send permission slips and first deposits to the MMS Main Office or Ms. Pendleton in the 7th grade hall ASAP.
Click here to view the interest letter sent home with students last quarter for more information. Contact Ms. Pendleton, MMS science teacher, with questions (jenniferpendleton@mgsd.k12.nc.us).
Q3 MMS tardy policy -- help your Red Imp get to school on time!
** Our Administration team has made some small changes to the MMS Q3 tardy policy. Please be aware that tardies began to be logged on Monday, January 8th. All student tardies were reset to zero at the beginning of the second semester. **
1st Tardy - Parent Square notification from school to parents
2nd Tardy - Parent Square notification from school to parents
3rd Tardy - Parent Square notification from school to parents
4th Tardy - Lunch Detention assigned with notification from school
6th Tardy - Office Referral (likely in-school-suspension OR after-school detention** assigned)
(7th tardy+ resets to warnings --> lunch detentions --> office referrals)
Students must be in the building when the tardy bell rings at 7:55am to begin their school day. After 7:55am, student tardies will be logged and parents will be contacted for warnings. Parents will be notified by Ms. Joy Miller, behavior interventionist, via Parent Square message when their child is late to school. Consequences will likely follow after the fact.
* Note: bus-riders on late buses are exempt from these consequences; that tardiness is an MGSD issue. If you need a bus route set up for your student, please click here to get more info about the MGSD Transportation department.
Parents: please be mindful of our 7:55am start time and help our Red Imps get to school on time each day so we can take advantage of every moment for learning!
Next Friday is an MMS Spirit Day!
The theme for Red Imp students & staff is... Twin Day!
Find a friend and wear matching outfits!
Have some fun next Friday with our MMS spirit day, Red Imps!
Imp Time grades not on report cards:
Parents: you may have noticed on this past week's student report cards that Imp Time grades (S / N / U) were not listed. Unfortunately (due to a mistake on our end), all students would have received an "F" in the semester 1 column, and we didn't want to alarm students and parents! Obviously not all students are failing Imp Time classes!
For the most part, students are doing quite well in their Imp Times, both on the Exact Path program and also with Reading or Math Interventions. ** To see your student's progress / grades for Imp Time, simply look in students' Canvas pages or use your parent-observer Canvas account. We're sorry for the omission but hope to have it fixed by Q3 report cards.
JV Basketball Home Games - Monday, 1/22
C'mon out to watch our Red Imp JV Basketball teams compete next week! MMS hosts both girls & boys home games on Monday, January 22nd -- the first game starts at 4:30pm. Our JV players would love to see community support as they take on South Davie Middle School that day. The cost is $5 per person. Only clear bags will be allowed inside, per conference policy. See you there!
