NEASC Accreditation Process Overview
Canton High School has begun the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) reaccreditation cycle and will continue the self-reflection process through our Collaborative Conference visit in the fall of 2023. We wanted to take this opportunity to provide a brief overview of this process, and to familiarize you with the various components.
NEASC is the organization that oversees the accrediting and reaccrediting of schools and colleges throughout New England. NEASC member schools are reaccredited every 10 years, and there are various elements to that process.
Self-Reflection: The reaccreditation process begins with a thorough and comprehensive self-reflection. This provides opportunities for schools to assess their current levels of functioning using the 5 NEASC Standards: Learning Culture, Student Learning, Professional Practices, Learning Support, and Learning Resources. Each standard has a series of principles focusing on particular areas within the larger standard which helps guide the self-reflection work.
Upon completing the self-reflection, schools will identify several key action areas in the self-reflection report. That report and the identified action areas, as well as overall levels of performance relating to the 5 standards, will be reviewed in more detail during the Collaboration Conference.
The Collaborative Conference is an opportunity for a 4-5 member visiting team to spend several days at CHS, and to further refine our action steps and evidence gathered through the self-reflection process. Several current CHS staff members have served on visiting teams in recent years, and their perspective is valuable to our own preparation work. We will be hosting the visiting committee for our Collaborative Conference in October of 2023.
Following the Collaborative Conference, the visiting committee will send a report back containing a summary of their visit, as well as supporting steps related to the key action areas we self-identified. We will then have several years to work on those items in preparation for our 2025 decennial reaccreditation visit.
The NEASC reaccreditation is a major undertaking for schools but is important to our collective progress, student and faculty advancement, and our collective achievement as a school community. We will continue to provide status updates throughout the process, and there will be additional opportunities for community involvement.

Handbook Highlights
The revised language clarifies important definitions as well as responses when incidents do arise. We felt it was important to spend time reviewing the previous language for clarity and from the perspective of teachers, students, and families. Our Handbook is reviewed annually, and we will again assess this section for clarity and possible areas of improvement.
CHS Faculty/Staff Member of the Month
We would like to congratulate our September Staff Member of the Month- Ms. Grace Burega. Grace has served our students for years in her role as an educational assistant, and her contributions are greatly appreciated. Our own Mr. Ed McDonough created this great video tribute to Ms. Burega and captured the impact she has had on our staff and students.
Overview
The Faculty/Staff Member of the Month program is designed to recognize outstanding teachers, school counselors, educational assistants, administrative assistants, cafeteria staff, and custodians for their contributions to Canton High School, excellence in and out of the classroom, leadership, innovation, community involvement, dedication, and support for CHS students. Each month, one faculty/staff member will be recognized.
Nominations may be submitted by the school faculty, staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members.
Regardless of the outcome, Canton High School would like to stress that the real tribute of this award is the nomination, which symbolizes the esteem and appreciation the community has for its faculty and staff.
Please use this Faculty/Staff of the Month Nomination Form to nominate a deserving faculty or staff member.
