Alan Turing

His life story


Alan was born in London, Paddington on the 23rd of June 1912.He went to a school in America but later moved back to England and began to work at the British cryptanalytic department. He is well known for being behind the machine to solve the code of the messages written by the Germans with the enigma machine.

Early Life

Alan was known to be intelligent from a young age. At twelve he expressed his conscious fascination with using 'the thing that is commonest in nature and with the least waste of energy,' presentiment of a life seeking freshly minted answers to fundamental questions. Despite this, he was successfully entered for Sherborne School. The headmaster soon reported: "If he is to be solely a Scientific Specialist, he is wasting his time at a Public School." The assessment of his establishment was almost correct.

His work

He was involved with a team creating a machine to help decipher the messages, the machine was named the Bombe, that successfully decoded the messages made by the enigma, he also went to Manchester University where he developed a body of work that helped to form the basis for the field of artificial intelligence. He had contributed a large amount to England, finding out the German’s messages was predicted shortening the war by 2 years
