Changing Bell Schedule for 2022-23 School Year
Our official start time next year will be 8:00 am and with no other changes our regular day dismissal time will be 2:55 pm.
In order to give students enhanced learning opportunities, we will adopt a new schedule. What does this mean for the schedule? It means that one week (Week A) will look exactly as it does now, Advisory to start the day followed by six periods, 1 through 6. The next week (Week B) will be the reverse. Advisory will still start the day, but the six periods will be in reverse, from 6 to 1. The week after will return to the first week (Week A) and so on.
- Rotating will be especially significant for periods 1 and 6
- Lunch same as period 4 teacher or period 3 (every other week lunch changes- will allow students to interact with different student during lunch)
- No change in instructional minutes
- Days off have same impact on all classes

COVID UPDATES
The following message was sent to families and staff (April 24, 2022):
Over the past several weeks there has been a steady increase in COVID-19 cases in our schools, our local communities in San Diego County, and across our country as a whole. While this is not the rapid surge we saw in January, it is still a concern and a trend that we expect to continue. In an effort to be prepared for any spread in our schools, San Diego Unified is adopting the following parameters for increasing our mitigation strategies if necessary.
Effective Wednesday, May 25, 2022, indoor masking may return to required status for individual schools and/or the District if the following risk levels are reached. This would apply to the remainder of the 2021-22 school year and 2022 summer school.
- Individual schools will resume required masking indoors for a minimum of a 14-day period, when:
- Within the past 14 days, at least three outbreaks (three or more cases in an individual classroom or stable group constitutes one outbreak) have occurred in the school, AND more than 5% of the school population (students and staff) is infected. OR,
- In a 3 consecutive-day span, 10% or more of the student population is absent each day due to illness. Note this metric will not apply to 2022 summer school.
- Districtwide, all schools and district sites will return to required indoor masking when San Diego County is in the High Level (orange) under CDC Community Level.
Families will be notified if their school(s) or the District reach these levels for masks to be required indoors.
To learn more about the safety mitigation strategies in place or to check the COVID-19 case rates at your school, visit the COVID-19 Information page.

Free On-Site Covid Testing
All students are encouraged to participate in regular, on-site COVID-19 testing. Even if students are fully vaccinated, we still recommend weekly testing. Free Covid testing in school not only helps prevent the spread of the virus, but it also helps more students stay in school and continue their education.
Thursday from 12:00-3:00 is Wangenheim's testing day. There is no flexibility in the testing schedule. Students requesting COVID testing on minimum days must remain after the 12:18 dismissal bell.
Opt-In to Regular, On-site Testing
If you have not already opted-in for your student(s), please follow these steps for free, regular, on-site testing.
- Complete the opt-in process to allow the testers to conduct weekly testing.
- Register and consent in the Primary.Health Portal in order to be tested.
