Monthly Potluck 🍲
School council is organizing monthly potluck events on the same day as early dismissal as a show of appreciation to our amazing staff. An informal sign-up list has been created on Perfect Potluck as a starting point for the type of edibles staff would enjoy during their monthly meeting. You are welcome to use the sign-up portal or you can just drop off at the school office before 2pm on Wednesday, December 6th. We have almost 40 staff to feed so any donation is much appreciated. Thank you for your support!
Below is the sign up link ⬇️
Winter Clothing Drive 🧥
Leadership 8 is running a winter clothing drive next week (Dec. 4-8). We are asking for new or lightly used winter clothing. All items will be donated to A Safe Place, a local women’s shelter that supports women and families escaping domestic violence. There will be a box in each classes homeroom that you can donate to. Large items like jackets and snowpants will be worth 2 points, and small items like mitts and toques will be worth 1 point. The homeroom with the most items next Friday will get a pizza party before Christmas!
Don’t have winter clothing to donate? That’s okay! A Safe Place has a long wish list of other items they need. Each of the following items will be counted as 1 point in your homerooms box!
- New Pajamas
- New Socks & Underwear
- New Shoes, Boots, and Sandal
- Journals and Art Supplies
- New, unwrapped toys
- Reusable Water Bottles
- Full-Size Toiletries
- Feminine Hygiene Products (must be unopened)
- Diapers (preemie, newborn, size 5 and up, swim diapers, and pull-ups)
- Baby wipes

Strathcona Food Bank
Sherwood Heights Junior High wants to thank the Strathcona Food Bank for all their support over the past two years by providing our “forgotten lunch” program to our students.
We believe wholeheartedly in meaningful partnerships within our community!
Thank you to all the Food Bank volunteers who lovingly pack the food every month and to our Leadership classes who organized our Food Bank donations this month.
Pizza day is back!
Thursdays in the gym hallway pizza will be sold at the beginning of lunch for $3.00 per slice while supplies last.
Our canteen is now open with a variety of fun foods and snacks to purchase. We also have brought back the use of microwaves in the hallways during the first half of lunch. We ask that students wait in line patiently and be respectful with your peers and the microwaves.
Student Support at Sherwood Heights
Mental Health has been identified as an EIPS priority this year and in response, Sherwood Heights has introduced several new ways to access student support.
Mrs. Jessica Moen is in the role of School Based Social Worker this year at SWH. Mrs. Moen’s primary role is to facilitate connections among family, school, and community to assist with positive growth. She works as part of the multidisciplinary team to help our families set goals, integrate interventions, plan strategies and arrange resources that will help students be successful in school, at home, and in their community. She offers support services in a variety of formats (individuals, families, and groups), in a variety of settings (school, home, community settings) and is the primary connection with many community agencies. Mrs. Moen can be found in her office beside the drama room and beside the vending machines.
Referrals for ALL student support services can be done using any of the following ways:
Save on Foods Wye road believes in being an active part of the community and last year paid Sherwood Heights $2796.66 in rebates! Please bring your Save On Foods receipts into the school or send them with your student to bring to the office. Receipts are collected and tallied and Save On Foods presents a cheque to Sherwood Heights for 5% of the total (some rules apply)! What a fun and easy way to fundraise for our school.
School fees for the 2023-2024
School fees for the 2023-2024 school year will be posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. Throughout the year, fees are often added to cover the costs for various activities, such as field trips, extracurricular activities, and late, damaged or lost textbooks.
To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view fees and pay them online using a credit card. Make sure to monitor your child’s account on an ongoing basis.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit eips.ca/schools/fees. And, if you have questions, think there is an error or need help creating a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, contact your child’s school directly - reach out to our Business Manager Candace Lyles to discuss questions and options firstname.lastname@example.org
NOTE: Pursuant to Board Policy 23: School Fees and Administrative Procedure 505: School and Administrative Fees, EIPS will forward any unpaid 2021-22 fee amounts to a collection agency. To prevent this from happening, remember to pay your fees before August 31, 2024.
