News from the Nurse
Please report COVID cases to the nurse!
If you or your child are considered a close contact or are positive for COVID-19, please email or call Nurse TJ.
We want to be able to answer your questions or provide resources if you need help.
Unfortunately, those confirmed with COVID-19 are being asked to notify their close contacts as the health department is unable to help with all cases presently. This can be a very daunting task. The link below has some great information on what to do when you get tested.

Not sure what is meant by close contact?
Here is the CDC definition:
Someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period* starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.
* Cumulative exposure includes individual exposures added together over a 24-hour period (e.g., three 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes).
Please note that testing is not perfect and the timing of testing can impact the validity of results.
Molecular based tests or a PCR test are recommended instead of antigen or antibody testing.
If you or your child are a known close contact, consider testing 5 days after exposure.
If you develop symptoms, test right away.
If you are a close contact and develop symptoms, you may want to test when symptoms start and then again later in your quarantine period if your first test is negative.
If an individual has tested positive within the last 90 days and does not have symptoms, repeated testing is not recommended. If an individual has tested positive within the last 90 days and develops symptoms again, they should contact their healthcare provider.
What to do while awaiting test results? 40% of positive individuals can spread COVID-19 while not having any symptoms.
If you are being tested because of symptoms or a close contact:
• Stay at home until your test results are back (except to get medical care). Avoid all public places and transportation.
• Keep at least 6 feet from people and animals, including those in your household. • Avoid sharing personal household items, wash your hands and high touch surfaces regularly. • Inform your work (or your child’s school) that you are awaiting results.
If you are being tested for screening purposes, continue to wear a mask, wash your hands and stay 6 feet apart from others.

Good Afternoon,
Parents and guardians of K-2nd grade students, if you have not had a moment to complete the "Intentions for School Return" survey please take a moment to give your response.
Here is the message sent out last week: The Anchorage School District is sending a survey to all families. The purpose of the survey is to capture the intent of those planning to change instructional programs as ASD prepares for face-to-face learning for our PreK-2 students on November 16.
Please take this survey to assist us in planning: Parent Survey: Intentions for School Return
Thank you,
ASD Virtual Team
