School Newsletter- 24th February
Endeavour School - February the 24th, 2022
Principal's Message
On Monday evening we had our first BoT meeting for the year. At this meeting we sign off on some key documents for the year, one key one being our School Charter. Our Charter, which is co designed by our BoT and Operational Team, is a workable and liveable document that drives what we do here at Endeavour, it defines our Who, Why, How and What. I look forward to sharing this with you in the coming days, once we finish our final editing process.
On top of continuing to develop in our children our key learning dispositions of Explorer, Thinker and Citizenship, one of our other key drivers this year is to further develop our teaching approaches with Reading and Writing in order to lift progress and achievement for all students. Earlier today our Deputy Principal Kylee Edwards shared with you one such approach called the IDEAL Programme. I encourage you all to read the note.
A common theme within the conversations I am having with teachers this week is how excited they are to be able to gain momentum with their learning programmes. I know our team gain huge satisfaction when they are able to engage and support their children with their learning. It is through this process that connections and relationships are built. I want to thank them for the continued focus, consistency and care of our tamariki, it makes a difference.
Today, you may have already caught up on the news that we are moving to Phase 3 of the Red setting as of midnight tonight. The most significant change for us and yourselves as a learning community is that from tomorrow onwards, if you are classified as a Close Contact here at school your child will no longer be required to self isolate and can resume school as per normal. From Friday 25th February only Household Contacts of a positive case will be required to self isolate.
If we have a positive case here at school, you can still expect from us a school wide notification. This will include what LC the positive case is in. In addition we will make direct contact with all the families whose child we have deemed to be a close contact. Those families will then be able to make a decision for themselves, whether they would like their child to return to school or keep them at home to monitor for symptoms.
We understand that each family has different circumstances. What we ask from you is that if you are keeping you child home for precautionary measures, that you let us know. Our team are ready and willing to provide distant learning for such measures.
Finally, I would like to leave you with a quote from Seth Godin. Let's collectively be all in with the way we support and connect as a learning community.
Warm regards
Geoff
Social niceties are easy to do half-heartedly.
But they’re not for us, they’re for the other person.
When you show up begrudgingly, it’s not half-hearted, it’s cold hearted.
A handshake, a greeting, the way we sit in a meeting or wear a mask–it’s a chance to connect and to make a difference for the person we’re with.
All in...
Whaanau / Teacher Catch up's
Knowing your child's story, interests and needs is very important to us and supports us with being able to deliver a rich and engaging programme for them. As mentioned, this term we will be hosting these via Zoom. Closer to the time your child's Ako Teacher will send you via email a Zoom link to log into. You are welcome to have your child online for the catch up, however, if you wish not to for whatever reason, that is understandable as well.
