The Pershing Elementary Newsletter
Good Afternoon Pershing Families,
Time continues to fly by! I hope that all of our families and staff had a safe holiday break and that your children and families are healthy. We have three weeks of school before our next break, so let's make a big push in learning and engagement! Our staff are very proud of how many students consistently come to each Zoom meeting, who work hard to complete all their practice and school work on time. We recognize this has been hard to do! We will be sending out notices to families of students who had perfect attendance in the first trimester, who had high engagement in distance learning, and who have made significant growth. Keep up the great work!
Student Material Pick-Up: Tomorrow we have another student materials pick-up in the multi-purpose room. Please be sure that you wear a mask when coming to campus and only come directly to the open multi-purpose room doors. Pick-up will begin at 7a.m. and end at 5:30p.m. Please refer to the chart below to see which classes have items to pick-up and which are not distributing materials this round. You have flexibility to come at any time between 7a.m. - 5:30p.m. to pick-up materials. Please remember to bring a mask and to socially distance when on campus. If you have a special circumstance, or are experiencing COVID symptoms and cannot come to pick-up materials, please contact our office so we can make arrangements to get the materials to your student. The office continues to be open every school day from 8:30a.m. - 3:30p.m.
Hybrid Cohort Assignments: A message will be shared with guardians this Friday regarding cohort placement for students who will return in person, assigning students to either the Cohort A (Monday-Tuesday) or Cohort B (Thursday-Friday) group for when we transition to the Hybrid model. It will also confirm those who are assigned Cohort C (distance learning). We have very little room to make adjustments. All cohorts were done at the district level to ensure that siblings (including those at middle and high schools) were kept in the same cohort. If you have a major issue with your cohort, you can call the office and we will look at each request on a case-by-case basis.
Upcoming Schedule Change: Wednesday, December 9th and Wednesday, December 16th will be two days of Asynchronous learning and no whole-class live Zoom meetings. Students will still do assignments in Google Classroom and See Saw. The District has negotiated those two Wednesdays to be work days for teachers to prepare to transition to the Hybrid model. While we know that the Sacramento County tier status must change to red first, and that the January 5th date is tentative, our teachers will be using those two days to prepare and plan for this transition. If the transition date is delayed, their planning will still help for a future date of transition. It is our intent to be ready when SJUSD is able to transition to Hybrid, whether it is January 5th or a later date.
