Save the Date for Claxton's Outdoor Workdays This Spring!

Join us on Sat, 3/30 and Sat, 4/27 anytime between 9am-1pm to welcome spring to our campus! We'll be preparing our garden beds for the growing season and taking care of a few other tasks around campus. We have garden tools, but, if you have any favorites, please feel free to bring trowels, hand pruners, shovels, rakes, root diggers, and wheelbarrows. Children are definitely welcome! Pi Day with Mr. Edwards

Mr. Edwards facilitated lessons all day on Pi Day, March 14, to bring the love of pi to our students! We loved having art and math come together to explore pi. See the Facebook post HERE for Pi Day photos.

Leader in Me Parent Representative Wanted

Our Claxton Leader in Me team is seeking a parent representative (or two!) to add to their team. In this position, a parent rep would:

- Attend monthly Lighthouse meetings (every 3rd Tuesday from 3-4pm in the Media Center);

- Work closely with Mrs. Olson to work on Leader in Me artwork throughout the school (beginning in May and continuing into the summer); and

- Supervise students a few times a year to work on art projects in the school.

We'd love to welcome our new parent rep(s) at the Leader in Me April meeting and have the same parent rep(s) continue through next school year. Please contact if you're interested in stepping into this new role!

"A Night at the Museum" Auction with MCs Mr. Edwards, Mr. Godleski, and Coach Swain!

You will not want miss out on this fun event with Mr. Edwards, Mr. Godleski, and Coach Swain serving as Masters of Ceremonies. It’s going to be F-U-N, FUN!

We hope the entire Claxton community – parents, guardians, grandparents, friends, teachers, and staff – will join us to celebrate and support Claxton at our upcoming "A Night at the Museum" Auction! Purchase your tickets now. This year's event will be at the Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) on March 29th from 7-10:30pm. Tickets are available online HERE.

All Claxton families are welcome!---Please don’t let the ticket price prevent you from attending. For financial assistance please contact Mr. Ackerman at / (828) 350-6503.

Childcare for children ages 12 months to 12 years old can be reserved at the downtown YMCA from 5:45 - 9:30pm. The cost of this Parent’s Night Out program is $15 for Y members and $26 for non-members. Please register your kids at the downtown YMCA as soon as possible, as they'll be opening registration to the whole community soon. You can call the downtown Y at (828) 210-9622 or stop by to register. The Y is giving Claxton parents an early sign up period before opening it up to the larger Asheville community.

Volunteers Needed for "A Night at the Museum"!

We need your help to ensure our 2019 Claxton "A Night at the Museum" Evening and Auction is a SUCCESS! Please volunteer to help us with this event. We need people to help with various tasks before, during, and after the event. Please sign up HERE. We could not do this without you! Thank you!

Do You Have a Skill or Service You'd Like to Share?!? Seeking Auction Donations

There is still time to donate to the 2019 Claxton “Night at the Museum”! The Claxton “Night at the Museum” event is on March 29! If you were wanting to donate something, but you just didn’t know what, here are some ideas:

  • Do you like to pet-sit, dog walk, garden, or babysit? You can offer 5 hours of your time doing these things!

  • Do you know how to play music, knit, make pottery, or draw? You can donate lessons!

  • Are you skilled at house projects, decorating, or organization? You can offer some of your time to do these things for someone else!

  • Do you like to bake? You can donate a dessert item for the event!

For inquiries or donations, please contact Lisa Manning at by March 22nd and include the following information: Name, Phone Number, Name/Description of Donation Item or Experience, and Cash Value (if applicable). Thank you!!

Yearbooks on Sale Now!

  • $20 each - orders due by April 1st, 2019

  • All 5th Graders get a free yearbook (no need to order).

  • All other students: Order online at or return order form and payment to your teacher (extra forms available in the office). Make checks payable to Claxton PTO.

  • Claxton yearbooks are printed in full color and feature all student portraits and many candid photos. Yearbooks will be distributed near the end of the school year. Order yours now – supplies are limited!

  • 5th Grade Families - Buy an ad to celebrate your student in the Yearbook! Ads due March 15th.

Planning to Chaperone Overnight Field Trips or Serve as an EOG Proctor?

If you're planning to chaperone an upcoming overnight field trip or serve as an End-of-Grade Proctor, be sure you've planned ahead to meet the one-time requirement of the brief (~20-30 min) ACS Level II Training to chaperone. The full LEVEL II training schedule for the remainder of the year is available through this link.

The next training sessions, which usually happen about once a month, are on the following dates at the Asheville City Schools' Central Office at 85 Mountain Street. Please check the linked schedule above for exact room location at ACS Central Office.
