Newsletter Week 5 Term 1

St Brigid's School 1 March 2022

Linda's Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers

We are certainly at an interesting stage of the pandemic and one that will have an ongoing impact on our school over this term. Colds, flu and sore throats are often present in schools and some children catch them, whilst others don’t; Omicron will be much the same. The majority of adults in our community are triple vaxxed and so will be less likely to contract it. For those who do, the symptoms are likely to be mild.

The school has prepared itself as best as it can. We have made available online distance learning for those who have to isolate at home. We do not expect children who are sick to do online learning (unless of course they are feeling well enough). Thank you to parents who are keeping their children home if they are unwell and are following up with tests.

It is important to let the school know if a test is positive as we are required to notify the Ministry of Education.

Please make sure you ring or email us with your child’s absence, as it is very time consuming for Lynne and Denise to contact parents individually.

We will continue to keep you updated as need be.

At our first Board of Trustees meeting for the year our Chairperson and long serving board member Dean O’Shaughnessy, stood down from his role as Chair. I would like to thank Dean for the work that he undertook over the last year, as Chair of our Board, and the many hours he has given to ensuring St Brigid’s School runs smoothly. I would also like to congratulate Meg Davies on her appointment as our new Chairperson.

I hope the new format for our newsletter is working for our community. We will continue to email the newsletter as well this term for those who are not yet using the SchoolApps.

God Bless

SchoolDocs Policies and Procedures

Last year our school signed up with SchoolDocs, a platform that manages school’s policies and procedures and ensures that they are kept up to date. This is now accessible on our website for parents to view.

One of the awesome things about SchoolDocs is that it allows parents to be included and to have a say on some of the school procedural statements.

If you would like to take a look at this site and/or contribute to the current review go to our website:

  • click on the Our School tab and then

  • Board of Trustees from the drop down menu

  • On this page is Policies & Procedures with a link called SchoolDocs Link

  • Username: StBrigids | PW: respect

Once you are in, have a look around the site. It is easy to navigate and has lots of different links to additional material and documents that support individual policies and procedures.

The first procedural document that parents are invited to review is:

  • Visitors

Upcoming Events

  • Kahui Ako Staff Only Day - Friday March 18

Caring for Our Environment

Room 8 is doing a wonderful job of caring for our environment. On 25 February they planted sedum in our narrow school garden.
