This week we are focusing on the GE Life Principle of Dedication: setting aside for a particular purpose.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) designed the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) to ensure that Texas students are competitive with others, both nationally and internationally. One important function of STAAR is to gauge how well schools and teachers are preparing their students academically. These assessments are specifically designed to measure individual student progress in relation to content that is in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Every school district in Texas, including Tomball ISD , is bound by the Texas Administrative Code which states that “Every student receiving instruction in the essential knowledge and skills shall take the appropriate criterion - referenced assessments, as required by the Texas Education Code (TEC) Chapter 39, Subchapter B.”
Northpointe students will be taking STAAR tests on the following days:
Wednesday, May 11, 2022 - 5th grade Science STAAR
Tuesday, May 17, 2022 - 5th and 6th grade Reading STAAR
Wednesday, May 18, 2022 - 5th and 6th grade Math STAAR
Please make note of the following items of importance regarding STAAR testing:
If your student will be purchasing a lunch from the cafeteria on one or more testing days, the choice available will be limited to a “sack lunch” selection.
Students will need only a book to read after testing on the dates listed above, so backpacks will not be necessary. Please have your student leave his/her backpack at home on those days, if at all possible.
Due to the secure nature of the tests, cell phones & smart watches are strictly prohibited during testing. If your student must bring his/her phone and/or smart watch to school on testing days, it will be turned off and collected/stored by the test administrator until all students have completed & submitted their tests.
No lunch deliveries or lunch visitors will be allowed on testing days.

May is Mental Health Month: Mental health is wealth, especially during Mental Health Awareness Month, which is celebrated in May. The stigma around mental health and treatment has long existed, even though this has started to change. Still, people hesitate to seek help or even talk about it with their loved ones for fear of being judged and facing unnecessary backlash. Simple logic dictates that if we are hurt anywhere, we must seek treatment to get better. This applies to both our mental- and physical well-being.
