Term 3 - Issue 14 8th September 2022
PRAYER
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
What an amazing couple of weeks we have had in our school! The last fortnight saw us celebrate our wonderful Education Assistants and Office Staff with Education Assistant Appreciation Week, along with a hugely successful Book Fair, culminating in the Father's Day Breakfast and assembly.
COVID
There has been a recent spike in COVID cases in our community that has affected both children and staff. As you would be aware, the isolation requirements for those testing positive to COVID will reduce to 5 days from Friday 9th September. We continue to follow the directions from WA Health which means if you tested positive before Friday, then it is a 7-day isolation period. Only those who test positive from Friday, 9th Sep will be required to undertake the shorter 5-day isolation period.
A reminder that it is the personal responsibility of all members in our community that if you experience any symptoms, please test and stay home until a negative result is received. If positive, please report to WA Health and register via the self-reporting link on our website.
BOOK FAIR
An outstanding response by our community to the opportunity to get our children involved in reading as part of the Book Fair this year. Thanks to our parents and the wonderful Mrs Howell and Mrs Bowden, over $7000 worth of books and reading materials were sold in our community. The funds raised will help support Literacy Pro, our levelled reading program along with purchasing some new resources to encourage reading across the school. The most rewarding aspect was seeing our children excited about getting books in their hands! A great effort from all!
FATHER'S DAY
Thank you to all the father figures who turned out for our annual Father's Day Sausage Sizzle. The P&F kindly provided some great raffle prizes and a big congratulations to all the winners! Also, a big thanks to the staff who arrived super early to get the barbeques fired up and set up tea and coffee. Another great team effort.
R U OK? DAY
Parents would have noticed that our staff are all supporting the R U OK? Day campaign again this year. Children were treated to a juice box and gathered in classes to discuss the importance of checking in on each other and to listen to the struggles of others. The message behind the day emphasises how a conversation can change a life, no qualifications needed! Children discussed the four steps in the process:
1. Asking R U Ok?
2. Listening
3. Encouraging Action
4. Checking In
Whilst we acknowledge the day once per year, we need to remember to have these conversations regularly as we respond to the high levels of mental health challenges in our society. More and more data suggests that the impacts of anxiety and mental health reach primary school children at an alarming age. Please take the time to view the video above as a way to discuss R U Ok? with your children.
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Next week, (weather permitting) the Athletics Carnival will take place. This year, it has been split into two days:
- Wednesday 14th September: Year 3/4/5/6 Jumps, Throws and 400m (Coffee Van and Parents Welcome)
- Friday 16th September: PP-6 Running races, Team events, relays and the parent race (The Pitch Inn Food Van, Coffee and Parents Welcome - see attached Pitch Inn Menu for the Friday. This is designed for parents attending).
Please see Ms Hamilton's post below for more information and keep an eye on our socials. The Program will be out next week. A reminder to please have a look at the order of events to ensure you do not miss your child's races.
GRANDPARENTS DAY PERFORMING ARTS - FRIDAY 23RD SEP 8:45AM
On the last day of this term, we are inviting all Grandparents to attend our Performing Arts assembly. We will be showcasing a number of our Catholic Performing Arts items, as well as some instrumental groups that learn an instrument each Thursday. Parents and grandparents will be invited to walk through classrooms from 8:20am, then meet in the hall for the Performing Arts assembly.
A massive weekend of finals with all four games being great spectacles. Let's hope the two games this weekend don't disappoint and I think I speak for most, when I say we'd like Freo to get up over the Pies! Unfortunately, the Wallabies couldn't get over the Boks for a second straight time and will have the daunting task of the All Blacks next week. Enjoy the September sporting feast!
Just over two weeks left of a busy term. Have a great fortnight ahead.
Best wishes

ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI FEAST DAY CELEBRATIONS
On Friday 14 October we will celebrate our saint, Francis with a whole school Mass at 8:45am, followed by the Mission Fete later that day.
It would be wonderful to have parents, caregivers and other family members involved in our celebration. If you are interested in reading at Mass, please contact me at dee.campbell@cewa.edu.au as soon as possible.
Please also check SEESAW closer to the date for information on how you can support your child's class with the Mission Fete.
A note regarding the Mission Fete will come home this week, and also be posted on SEESAW.
Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received - only what you have given: a full heart, enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.
