World War 1

WW 1 Trench

Georges Clemenceau

He was born September 28, 1841 and died on November 24, 1929. He was a French Prime Minister for three years. He is known as the "Tiger" and was a key figure in holding French resolve to fight for total victory, while others considered making a treaty with Germany. The Tiger took a harsh position against Germany at the Treaty of Versailles.

Colonel Edward M. House

Was one of President Wilson's most trusted advisers. He helped write the terms of the peace treaty that followed the war.

The Countries that fought in World War 1

Allies included the United States, Italy, Russia, France, and Britain. These countries fought against Germany, Bulgaria, Austria- Hungary, and Ottoman Empire.

The three Questions

1) What cause the U.S. to enter WW1?

The united States entered the war because the Germans sunk the ship Lusitania that had a lot of Americans aboard. Another reason was because the German foreign minister, Arthur Zimmermann, Sent a coded telegram to Mexico's president Carranza.

2) How did Texas play an important role during the war?

Texans bought war bonds, liberty binds, and victory bonds. Americans and Texans also donated money to the Salvation army, Red Cross other groups the helped the war in Europe.

3) How did WW1 end?

The allies power won, that consisted of Britain, France, and the United States.

THE GREAT DEPRESSION

People in Great Depression

After the stock market crashed many people were out of jobs

Herbert Hoover

Herbert Hoover Blamed the international economic and questionable business for the Great Depression. He thought that the government shouldn't get involved and let the business take care of the problem.

The Four Questions

1) How did FDR, (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) pull the country out of depression?

FDR stabilized the economy and provided jobs.

2)What caused the Dust Bowl and how did it affect farmers in Texas?

A severe drought and not applying dryland farming methods cause the dust bowl

3)Which New Deal programs were important to Texas. (This info is in Chapter 23-2).

The Federal Emergency Administration gave money to local and state agencies to give to unemployed people fairly.

4)How were tenant farmers and miners affected by the Great Depression?

The farmer didn't have any crops do to the drought and the miners didn't have opportunities.

Germany Surrenders

After Hitler took his own life Germany had no other choice but to surrender

The only way to end the War was to drop the atom bomb on Hiroshima

Hitler was a German politician who was the leader of the Nazi Party

The axis powers Germany, Italy, and Japan. Then the allies Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Soviet Union, China, and the United States.

1) How did Texas contribute to the nation’s military effort in fighting World War II?

Women stepped in when they were needed. They helped put ammunition together and got everything that the men needed while at war.

2) How did life changed for Texans on the home front during World War II?

Women left to help the war cause

3)How did WWII end?

World War 2 ended when the Axis powers surrendered and a atom bomb was dropped of Hiroshima.
