5th Grade News

Week of Sept. 28 - Oct. 2

Welcome!

Welcome to Mrs. Riddle and Mrs. Waggoner's Weekly Newsletter! Here, you will find our learning targets for the week, along with upcoming events/reminders.

Learning Targets

English Language Arts - We are continuing to work on inferences and providing text evidence to support what we infer from our reading together. I am specifically focusing on providing an accurate quote of evidence that supports the inference. We will also be working on connections to our reading. In guided groups, I will be conferring with each student to get to know them as a reader. I will also be going through new word study words that are differentiated for the needs of each group.

Writing - Students are working on writing personal narratives. Fingerprint writing needs to be finished this week. We will work on this in class; however, some students are also working on these at home.

Social Studies - We are continuing our study of different types of maps. Most of our focus will be on the skill of finding the absolute location, latitude, and longitude of a city or landmark. We will also review scales and map keys.

Math - We are still working on multiplication and division, but specifically on multiplying and dividing whole multi-digit numbers. We will also practice using parenthesis and brackets. Please, encourage your children to practice their math facts EVERY DAY. Even if it is only for a few minutes. Also, MobyMax login and password information can be found in your child's B.E.E. Binder.

Science - Students are still studying ecosystems, specifically focusing on food webs and how organisms acquire energy. Vocabulary review: ecosystem, herbivore, consumer.
