In The Middle
A newsletter to and for the parents of CLMS - 1/25/19
Message from the Principal
Howdy Gang,
It is going to be seriously cold. Please help your kiddos dress for the weather. As my friends who live in Norway tell me, "There is no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing choices." Help your kiddo be situationally aware, but don't teach them to fear winter. When they say dangerously cold they mean if you are not correctly dressed it is dangerous. Study after study shows the benefit of getting outside and how good it is for our mental health and outlook on life. Dress 'em up, embrace the cold, and live our winters.
We are all in this together.

Grade 8 Poetry Slam Results
We are so proud of our 8th grade Advanced English students. They all wrote two original poems and performed them in front of their peers and some adults in the annual poetry slam. Students are graded on figurative language, sound devices, effort, performance and impact on the audience. The poems that they produced were beyond impressive - congratulations to all who participated and a big round of applause for our winners!
Winner for the long poem was Grace Stoehr & runner up was Alea Peterson
We had a tie for the short poem - winners Grace Stoehr & Anjue Guzik
I did not see all of these, but the ones I was able to see perform - oh my gosh they were great.

Come see the middle school play! DOROTHY in WONDERLAND
The worlds of Oz and Wonderland collide in this mash-up, cleverly and carefully adapted from the works of L. Frank Baum and Lewis Carroll. Dorothy Gale has made her way to the end of the Yellow Brick Road, and the wonderful Wizard of Oz is just about to help her get back home to Kansas. But before she can hop into the wizard’s balloon, another whirlwind appears over the Emerald City, sweeping Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion away to Wonderland. Equipped with their new assets — brains, heart and courage — Dorothy’s friends try to help her find her way home, meeting many other interesting characters along the way, including Alice, the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, March Hare, the Cheshire Cat and many more. They also must face a dangerous new foe — the Queen of Hearts! Dorothy and Alice team up to defeat the queen at croquet, but will that be enough to return Wonderland to normal? And how will they ever get back home to Kansas and to London?
