Superintendent's Message
Dear JUHSD Community,
As we settle into the new school year, and quickly move into September, I would like to share that I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting our sites during these past three weeks of school. During these site visits, I have seen the amazing things happening in classrooms, I've seen fun activities happening on quads, and have been greeted by students in such a friendly and open manner. After the past few years of dealing with COVID, it finally feels like school is school again and there is a sense of normalcy.
This past Wednesday, Thornton High School kicked off our Back to School Night season with their well-attended campus presentation and dinner. After visiting Thornton High, I headed over to Jefferson High School's Parent Orientation and BBQ dinner, courtesy of the JHS Parent-Teacher-Student-Association. It was wonderful to see so many families in attendance. Thank you!
Being able to chat with our students and their families is one of the best parts of my job. I look forward to doing so with you during our upcoming Back to School Nights at TNHS, WHS, JHS, and OHS. The dates and times of these nights can be found in this week's update.
Have a wonderful weekend and know that my door is always open!
Warmly,
Toni Presta

State Superintendent Champions Budget
On June 30, Governor Newsom signed the 2022–2023 state budget package, marking another historic year of funding levels for education programs in California. This year’s budget directs key investments to areas specifically identified by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and the CDE: addressing declining enrollment and providing funding for mental health services, community schools, literacy programs, universal school meals, and programs focused on improving all student outcomes in the wake of the pandemic. Read more in the CDE news release.
