SOAR Updates

Attendance, most especially in this distance learning model, is vital to student success and progress. There is an expectation that our STARs attend every course assigned, every day. It is very important to ensure teachers/instructors are aware of a student's online presence.

Please keep in mind that college instructors may drop students from their class for non-attendance. All SOAR students must be registered into an AVC class in order to remain in the program. Whether it is high school or college, if a students misses a class for any reason, they should follow up with the teacher/instructor directly via email.

If you miss a high school class for an excusable reason, parents/guardians must call or email Mrs. Andrews to clear the absence: (661) 722-6509 / Although we are not on campus, we are still responsible for record keeping.

Back to School Night

SOAR's Back to School Night will be held virtually on Wednesday, September 2nd beginning with a video from SOAR at 5pm. Please look for information next week on how you'll log in to view our school and each teacher's video. Thank you for your support!

School Site Council

If you would like to make a nomination for SOAR's School Site Council for this 2020-21 school year, please email Dr. Herrera ( by September 1st. School Site Council plays an important role in contributing ideas, helping to make decisions, and working closely with students, staff, and families in order to manage the school goals and budget within the site plan. This year, we are looking for three students, two parents, three faculty members, and one staff member willing to put in the work for our council. This is a Mid-Cycle WASC accreditation year as well; SSC will also help with this process. Again, all nominations should be made to Dr. Herrera by September 1st.
