Summer Reading!
Summer is a time for fun but it's also important to keep up with all the skills the children have learned in reading and writing. As the children embark on new adventures, use these times for reinforcing learning.
There are many opportunities for reading and writing in the world around you:
- Read in the car: road signs, environmental print
- Grocery shopping: ask your child to read your list. S/he could even write some of the list, drawing pictures next to the items if needed.
- Amusement park or zoos - read the signs that tell information about the animals or nature
- Vacations - keep a journal or scrap book about what you did. Compare different activities such as visiting an amusement park or visiting a grandparent.
- READ, READ, READ and most importantly make it fun!
