CES Happenings

Greetings CES Families!

We hope that you have had a wonderful week! As we look ahead to the next few weeks, we have an exciting student event taking place at afternoon recess on Thursdays this month. Ms. Crowther is leading a Rock, Paper, Scissors-Snake Tournament to determine a CES Grand Champion! Rock, Paper, Scissors Snake is the traditional game of rock, paper, scissors, except when you win, the person you beat, attaches to your back and creates a snake. The snake goes up against other snakes until one winner is determined. There will be a FANTASTIC homemade trophy that the winner will get to take home. Encourage your child to participate during the Thursday afternoon recesses during the month of January!

Also another week of parent conferences is coming up! Teachers will be sending home letters that include the date and time of your parent conference next week. Conferences take place from Monday, January 31st to Friday, February 4th. Our dismissal times for students during conference week is:

TK/K Dismissed at 12:45

1-6th Grade Dismissed at 1:00

With appreciation and excitement,

Colly Fischer and Nicholle Crowther

Snow Play at Recess

Mountain Kids embrace our weather and love the outdoors!

Given that, students need to have appropriate gear

  • snow boots,
  • snow pants
  • gloves
  • coat for playing in the snow

At recess, based on the conditions, students may :

  • play on snow hills that are away from the school windows and roof
  • be on the hills as long as they are on the side where yard duty can see them
  • slide down feet first
  • take turns sliding down

Staff Spotlight: Wendy Cheli

Wendy Cheli, originally from Los Altos, joined the CES team in 2021 as the Expanded Learning Afterschool Program Coordinator. Before joining the CES team, Ms. Cheli attended Foothill College and also Cal Poly.

Ms. Cheli was inspired to work at Chester Elementary School because she loves working with kids and giving them the opportunity to grow through a variety of activities including the arts. She enjoys watching students explore and discover their own personal creativity. Ms. Cheli also loves the bonds that students of multiple ages, from multiple grades, forge by participating collaboratively in Afterschool Program activities.

In her free time, Ms. Cheli loves hiking, camping, and spending time with her family. She loves repurposing materials for different projects and crafts. Ms. Cheli love spaghetti and dreams of mountain biking along the coast Nepali Coast. Ms. Cheli loves the color green and her favorite children's book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Volunteers on Campus

Volunteers on campus

CES values our volunteers who help us so much. This year, in addition to the paperwork that volunteers complete we will be requiring

  • proof of vaccination

  • Or a weekly Covid test

  • and be fingerprinted (this can be done at the District Office in Quincy)

You are considered a volunteer if you come in consistently to assist at school in your child’s class. Field Trip drivers or parents that help for one event are not considered volunteers in this circumstance.

Testing will occur on campus once a week starting in early October but one can get a test result from anywhere convenient. The “quick test” AKA antigen will be the test provided at the school. At this time, over the counter tests will not be accepted.

Covid Protocols

Hello Chester families!

We’d like to remind all of our families that the same COVID protocols remain in place from last school year. If your child is ill, you will need to keep them home and follow the return to school criteria (see below). The complete PUSD Covid Protocols are found

here in Appendix B

Please use the At-home Staff and Student Screening to screen your children at home prior to sending them to school. The schools will contact any guardian for pick-up if your student develops symptoms during the school day. After experiencing any of the symptoms on this list, the student must meet the return to school criteria before they will be permitted back on campus. If you have any further questions, please contact your school office.

This week brings a change to Appendix B. See below for the details.

Here is to a great year!
