Positivity Project - Humor
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Humor. Humor means you like to laugh and bring smiles to other people.
Humor is a sense of playfulness and lightness. It is a way of looking at and describing the world that brings laughter to people. A person with the strength of humor is skilled at seeing the funny side of things, bringing smiles and laughter to others, and identifying and communicating the absurdities in life. People with this strength don’t specifically need to be joke tellers, although many are.
Humor plays an important role in helping groups of people rise above difficult circumstances and boost morale. It removes us from our present difficulties by easing tension and making life more fun. This is why athletic teams often need a jokester to help them get through tough losses and early morning fitness sessions. On a larger societal level, humor often helps downtrodden groups to find cohesion and strength. This is why Simon Wiesenthal said, “Humor is the weapon of unarmed people: it helps people who are oppressed smile at the situation that pains them.”
To practice and encourage the character strength of humor with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
EOG Testing - Remediation and Retesting for those who do not pass
Parents will be notified if their student does not show proficiency on one of the EOGs (6th-8th ELA, 6th-8th Math, 8th Science) or the Math I EOC. Students who do not show proficiency will attend a program of reteaching and will retake the test that they did not pass.
Healthful Living - Reproductive Health & Safety Unit
Per Wake County Public School policy #5120 parents/guardians may review the RHS instructional materials by making an appointment with the Healthful Living teacher. Additionally, per policy #5120, if you prefer that your child not participate in any or all of this instruction you will need to notify the principal and the healthful living teacher in writing. Upon receipt of your written letter, your child will receive an equal, alternate assignment. Letters requesting an “opt out” from RH

Student Snack Donation Sign Up Genius - Nighthawks PTA
We are still accepting donations in the front office for snacks for students and families in our school community. Collecting shelf stable snacks as part of our outreach activities to help our students and school community is a focus area of our PTA. Please sign up to donate any of the items listed or any items that you feel would be a benefit. You are welcome to send them in with your student to drop off in the main office. We appreciate your help and thank you for your support! - Nighthawks PTA
It's close to that time of year when we show love and appreciation to our dedicated Nighthawk teachers. This year for Teacher Appreciation Week, we will have a Carnival theme. The teachers will receive a small treat each day. We are asking parents to assist with donations to help make this week of highlighting our teachers a success. Below are the requests with pictures as a guide. Any similar donation is greatly appreciated. This year we are honoring approximately 90 teachers.
We appreciate all donations and support! If you have questions, please reach out to Kristi Emanuel or Stacee McCarter in the front office. We ask that all donations be turned into the front office by April 14th. You may choose to order through Amazon and have orders sent directly to the school to the attention of Stacee McCarter.
Thank you for your continuous support as #NighthawksStickTogether!
