Message From Mrs. El-Amin
Good Evening TLA Family,
This week was packed with many great opportunities. From athletic events, to career exploration, and academic endeavors, scholars were thoroughly immersed in joy and learning. We have a few updates for you this week.
If you have not returned the Registration Forms Packet by this upcoming Monday morning, your scholar will be held from class. You will receive a phone call, requesting that you come in and complete the form, in order for your scholar to attend classes. This is a vital part of the registration process. Please make sure you stop into the main office if you have any questions.
Please make sure you remove any sharpies and any other permanent marker from you scholar's school supplies. Sharpies/permanent markers are not allowed at TLA. We have been gifted an amazing facility and want to continue to treat it with care. Let's help remove this barrier for our scholars, by ensuring they do not bring them to school. If brought they will be confiscated.
Check your emails Monday for Progress Reports.
This upcoming Thursday, October 6th is our LOCKDOWN Drill. Scholars have all been trained in Standard Response Protocol and have brought home a handout to help you prepare them for the day. Remember this is only a drill.
In just over two weeks, October 15th, we will host our first dance of the year, the Fall Dance, for high school scholars. They will receive a handout with the dance guidelines and expectations this upcoming week.
Our upcoming literacy night has been rescheduled to Wednesday, October 26th. This will ensure we have space for parking, and will also allow parents to participate in the varying Trunk or Treat activities within the community.
Please remember to return borrowed uniforms. We have a set number of uniforms to use in emergencies. There were quite a few accidents to start the year and our inventory is almost empty. Be sure to return them so that another scholar can receive the same care your scholar received. K4 & K5 families make sure your scholars have a back-up uniform at school.
Enjoy your weekend.
Together we can make this the best year yet. GO Lions!!

Learning Galore!
CKLA small groups have begun in K5-3rd grade! Scholars will be receiving literacy instruction tailored specifically to their attainment level along with time for partner reading as well as independent skills practice.
The first content/ class assessments are approaching (or have already taken place)! Scholars have put in a lot of work these first four weeks and it’s time for them to show what they know. This is also a good time for teachers to recognize who needs additional support with a particular skill or content.
This week we are celebrating the A Team in AP History Short Writing Assessment: Katie M., Vito G., Lillian S., Emma H., and Evelyn H. Way to go learners!

Career Chat with Mrs. Benisch
Mechanical Room Visits
It is never too young to start learning about careers. Our elementary scholars visited the first floor mechanical room to learn more about the equipment in the room and how it runs. A representative from 1901 talked to the scholars about HVAC careers and other construction jobs. Scholars now understand how our building keeps us cool during warm days and warm during the cold days.
Construction Panel at CareerTek
Middle and high school scholars interested in construction careers attended a construction panel at Hendricks CareerTek. Scholars has the opportunity to speak with representatives from Batterman, Rock Road, and Home Fire Sprinkler. They learned how to use surveying tools and demo a VR sprinkler system simulation. Representatives talked about the different career paths available in their field and what they love about their jobs
Healthcare with Beloit Health Systems
Jodi Moyer, EMS Coordinator and Emergency Management Coordinator at Beloit Health Systems, came to speak with our middle school scholars in Healthcare Exploratory. Jodi shared her wealth of knowledge and experience about healthcare careers with the scholars. Scholars will be certified in CPR, first aid, and Safe Sitter by the end of the quarter in this course.
