Pizza and juice will be provided by us as a lunch. During breaks snacks will be provided.
Sumobots- It is exactly what it sounds like; two robots in an arena, with the major purpose to knock the other robot out of the arena. This is a competition revolving more around power and building skills than programming skills. It involves making sure your own robot has enough friction and protection to not be knocked out of the arena, while also making sure it has enough power to knock the other robot out. This helps students develop their programming and building skills.

Summer Skills Workbooks
Offered by Schools
Purchased by Parents
Benefitting Students
Are you looking for something your child can do over the summer to stay on top of their academics? The Summer Skills books are three different series of review books (math, language arts, and foreign language) for students from pre-k through high school. Each grade level book helps students maintain their academic skills over the summer months. If you are looking for something to help your child review and stay sharp over the summer, please consider ordering these Summer Skills Workbooks for your FSAPS child. Orders should be turned in to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than Friday, April 22nd.
Please see the Parent Letter/Order Form that came home with your child. There are extra copies of this form at the front office if needed. You can purchase each workbook for your child for $19.00 each. You can choose which subjects you would like to purchase for your child. On the order form, please indicate which subjects and grades you would like to order. You should be ordering the grade level they have completed this year – this will serve as a fantastic review of the skills they have learned this year, so they are ready for the beginning of the next school year. These orders will arrive to the school in May and we will distribute them to the students before the summer break!
For more information, details, and samples about each book - please visit the following website:http://www.summerskills.com/
Please contact Ms. Przedpelski at cprzedpelski@fultonscienceacademy.org if you have any questions.

Correction- Ms. Houston's Class Leprechaun Traps!
Using only items from home and what they could find in the classroom, Mrs. Houston's third grade students worked in pairs to creat traps for one unsuspecting leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day. Each trap was unique in it's own way and used different techniques to lure the tricky little fellow inside. From gold coins, to tiny chocolates, to promises of a disco dance party - the students had fun figuring out the best way to trap a leprechaun!

April Fools Day in Kindergarten
Arts & Crafts Club
Over the past several weeks, Mrs. James and the kindergarten Arts & Crafts Club were very busy finger knitting! Children have been learning how to make scarves, bracelets, necklaces and headbands using their fingers and yarn! Fun fact… The longest piece of finger knitting measured 4,321.4 m (14,177 ft 9 in) and was completed by Niklas Bernhard (Germany) on June 10, 2004. Niklas, who used woollen yarn left overs supplied by relatives and friends, learned to finger knit in kindergarten and then used this technique to improve his concentration. The finger knitted chain took more than eight years to be finished and was wound into a ball measuring 34 cm (13 in) and weighing 5.62 kg (12 lb 6 oz).

FSA Health Policy Reminder
It seems that cold and flu season is upon us and in full swing. We would like to remind you of our school policy regarding communicable illnesses and give you some helpful tips for staying healthy. We are beginning to see a lot of students at the front office with communicable illnesses and many of them mention that they were sick before leaving home, but their parents encouraged them to come to school. Please let me remind you that control measures and periods of exclusion are very important at a time like this in order to keep down the spread of these illnesses.
If we all follow these guidelines and simple steps, it will help to combat the spread of illness throughout our school and in your homes.
School guidelines regarding communicable illness:
1. The student should remain at home until being symptom free for 24 hours. This means that your child may not return to school until 24 hours from their last vomiting or diarrhea episode.
2. If the student experiences a fever during an illness, they should be “fever free” for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to school.
3. If the diagnosis is strep throat, the student should remain at home for 24 hours after starting the first dose of antibiotic treatment.
4. During any communicable illness, the student should be symptom free and fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has the flu, they should provide a doctor's note stating they can return to school.
IMPORTANT DISMISSAL PROCEDURES ANNOUNCEMENT
For the safety of our students:
School dismissal policy is that at 3:30 pm and 4:20 pm students are dismissed by carpool at the upper circle. Unless there is a family emergency, please do not expect to get your student from the front desk. If there is a family emergency please call the Administration Team, Principal Sener, or Assistant Principals Turan and Campbell, who will authorize pick up of your child during our no pick up times.
Any students waiting in the lobby without a parent will be sent up to Study Hall between 3:30 pm and 4:20 pm to be supervised, and from 4:40 pm -6 pm to After Care.
School closes at 6 pm, any students remaining will be under the care of staff waiting to go home.
If a parent is coaching a club or at a parent conference siblings or carpooling students need to be in Study Hall or After Care (no fee incurred).
If one student is in a club, or private music lesson, any additional siblings will be expected to follow the rule above (fee will apply after 4:40).
Academic Team members need to be picked up at 5:30 pm (unless otherwise directed by teachers). If not picked up they will be sent to After Care and the fee applied.
Pre-k and Kindergarten students (and any siblings or carpooling students) will continue to dismiss from the end of the elementary hallway.
Teachers ‘children need to use Study Hall or After Care unless directly supervised by their parent.
No student should ever be in an area of our school without adult supervision, cafeteria, stage, gym etc
Please respect our teachers and parent coach’s personal time as they work outside regular school hours with your students by picking up promptly.
This is our school policy and it will be adhered to.
April Fitness Challenge
At FSA, we are implementing physical fitness in a new way. As a personal trainer, I want the students to enjoy fitness throughout their lives without being afraid of having to run or do push ups as a punishment. The amount of support from the faculty with our fitness challenges is very rewarding. The students are enjoying doing push ups in all grades by pushing themselves to beat their own personal record. Fitness is all about you versus you.
April Challenge- squats has already begun!
Good Luck and Stay Fit!

Uniform and locker Reminder
A reminder that all non-uniform jackets need to be taken off and left in lockers or cubbies after arriving at school. Jackets should be worn for outside recess, but must be returned to lockers or cubbies after that. Wearing a non-uniform jacket during class is a violation of the dress code, which results in conduct points.
All students 4th through 8th grade have been issued a locker lock for their locker. This locker lock is to be used to prevent anyone from tampering with student belongings. If you have lost your locker lock, see Mrs. Campbell for a replacement. A replacement lock will cost $20.
