TMEA All State Information
What is the All State Choir?
What is the process?
Round 1: All academically eligible students enrolled in choir are eligible for this audition. They must pass the THS benchmarks to submit a recording.
Round 2: 72 Treble per section and 50 Tenor Bass per section will advance to the second round of auditions. This round will determine the region Treble and Mixed choir participants. (There will not be a Region weekend in the fall, but we are exploring having one in the Spring.)
Area; The top 5 singers from each section represent our Region at the Area auditions. This audition determines their participation in the All State Choir at the Texas Music Educators' Convention in San Antonio.
*This year, all auditions will be virtual to ensure proper mitigation practices against COVID 19. In a normal year, there are four rounds of live auditions and there is a sightreading component in the last two rounds.
What do I need?
Music: Students need to purchase their own music. They can buy it at each audition or they can buy a packet with all of the pieces. I will have pdfs available while you wait on your order. You do need real music for the audition. Music is $8 - $10 per audition or $18 for the entire packet. You can purchase it from Pender’s Music, AMC Music, The Music Rack or JW Pepper.
Rehearsal tracks: I have the rehearsal tracks in a google folder that students may download or stream on their devices. I can also make a cd if that is the best way for students to rehearse. We will have a district tutorials next week (see below) and after school rehearsals. They are open to all choir students, whether you are TVS or F2F.
Fees: $20.00 entry fee. $22.00 Region participation fee if the student participates in Region weekend.
If the cost might prohibit you from participating, please let me know and we will make arrangements.
