August Updates

Good Morning,

Even with the power outage at St. Damian School, we still dedicated the week to continuing to ReOpen our School with Trust! This week, you should have received a special welcome from your child/ren's homeroom teachers. We are looking forward to being with your children again on Wednesday.

Below is the schedule for our first few days back to school:

We continue to place information on the COVID-19 page on our website. This page contains a great deal of information regarding procedures, including pick up and drop off, we invite you to visit it.

The Archdiocese of Chicago has distributed forms they would like for us to distribute to our parents to review.

The first form is a Provision of Educational Instruction via Live Streaming and/or Recorded In-Person Instruction During the 2020-2021 School Year. This is for your review of our Live Streaming and Recorded Procedures.

As you know, we are implementing a number of procedures this year to maximize the safety of our students and employees. We are following the Reopening Plan of the Archdiocese of Chicago, which integrates all health and safety guidance of the Centers for Disease Control, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Chicago Department of Public Health. We believe that in-person instruction is essential for the growth of each child, and our plan provides for ongoing safety and illness prevention.

The second form is a document provided to us from The Archdiocese that was given to us because it is important that all parents, guardians, and students clearly understand our safety procedures and agree to follow them. While we have the utmost confidence in our plan, it is essential that we all work hard to keep each other safe and healthy. To this end, I encourage you to read the “Agreement to Adhere to COVID Protocols and Acknowledgement of Parental Responsibilities.” If you are planning to return your child for in-person instruction this year, The Archdiocese asks that you sign this form and return it to St. Damian School by August 24, 2020. We will be providing you with a paper copy of this document as well on August 19, 2020.

We invite you to live stream our "Back Pack Blessing" mass on August 16, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. On August 20, Fr. Joe will visit the classrooms and personally bless the students' backpacks for the school year.

We continue to ask for your patience as we maneuver this very new normal ourselves. We know there will be glitches.

Please call us with any questions.

Protecting God's Children

We appreciate the dedication and the commitment of our entire community. We cannot function without the generosity of our volunteers. Even though, our volunteers will be limited the first part of the school year, we are going to look forward to the future of a time where our halls will be able to once again greet visitors.

In order for you to volunteer in any capacity, we require you to be fully compliant with the steps outlined by the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth.

All documents can be found on our website:

We will also be distributing the CANTS form in a folder that you will receive on Wednesday. This is the only form that you are required to complete yearly.

Uniforms

We will be spending quite a bit of time in our classroom cohort. Due to the nature of this situation, we have agreed to allow the children to wear their gym uniforms throughout the school year. However, if you have already purchased the uniform, your child may wear that as well. We will be returning to the uniform policy when COVID-19 passes. You may purchase your uniform at the link below and our code is S0494.
