If parents and teachers want to give children a gift, the best thing they can do
is to teach the children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes,
enjoy effort, and keep on learning. -Carol Dweck
Hoot News
THANK YOU!
I have really enjoyed our time together this week! I loved talking about receiving feedback, making our rocks together, starting the conversation on data, and the micro-messages activity. I think our back to School PD was a positive and fun start to the school year.
WE HAVE ROCKED THIS TRANSITION!!! I heard nothing but positive comments on Thursday night from parents and kids. The kids and families are ready and excited for our new adventure together.
I have felt your enthusiasm and excitement about the new school year, despite the changes and difficulties we have faced over the last few months. There's a very positive feeling in the air! You can feel it! Together, we can do anything. I believe in you, and I am your biggest cheerleader. I am super proud of your work to prepare this campus for our Doss Owls. (now, start making your summer plans for NEXT summer, cause I am not going to let you come up here and work! We are all taking next summer off!)
CRITICAL INFORMATION FOR FIRST WEEK:
*carefully review the procedures for before and after school sent by Latrese.
*know where YOU need to be / be on time/ and activily supervise your area
*classroom teachers: make sure that you know exactly how each child is getting home at the end of the day.
*make sure that you and your students know what bus they are riding
*work on your social contract and review procedures. BUT, ALSO HAVE FUN!!!
*Kinder will release at 2:45. Everyone else, plan to be at your pick up point at 3:00. Leave the classroom in time for that to happen.
FEEDBACK ON PROCEDURES:
At 4:00 on Monday and Tuesday, the admin team will be in the library discussing procedures and making any needed adjustments. Team leads, please quickly poll your team for feedback and then stop by the library IF you have any suggestions for us. If your team does not have any recommendations, no need to stop by (unless you want to give high fives because everything went off without a hitch!)
FIRST DAY ANNOUNCEMENTS:
DAY 1: I will give a WELCOME at 7:45am, but we will not do pledges. Please review those announcement procedures with your kids. Also, do not send birthdays on the first day. The rest of the week we will do pledges and birthdays. Please let me know via email if you cannot understand me on the announcements.
MEMBERSHIP:
Teachers, you will find a bright green sheet in your mailbox Monday morning which you will use for membership. Please only write an E if the student is physically present in your classroom. MEMBERSHIP IS DUE IN THE OFFICE BY 9AM. If you do not see their little bodies sitting, standing, moving in your classroom, leave the space for that day blank. If all your students show up on Monday, you are done with membership. Otherwise, you will get this sheet back in your mailbox on Tuesday. Attendance is taken every day we attend school at 10AM in TEAMS. If a student is not in your classroom by 10AM, they are absent. Thanks for your help.
DAILY SCHEDULES:
Teachers, please send a copy of your daily schedule to the front office as soon as possible. Also, post near your door. Thank you!
JOIN THE PTA!
Join the PTA and we can wear jeans everyday! This week the PTA will put a form in your box for PTA membership. You can also join online. Let's get 100% membership as soon as possible so I can wear my new jeans! HOOT HOOT!

LIBRARY NEWS
Please use this link https://goo.gl/forms/xGJg811pGyWW7yKi2 to let me know when you are available for library time. PK-1 will come weekly, 2/3 on alternating weeks, and 4/5 on a flex schedule. Regardless of what grade level you teach, please complete the form. I will use the information for scheduling library times, but also for special events, open checkout times, collaborations, and more. Please do not plan on coming for checkout the first week of school. I will be including some completely flexible weeks in the schedule this year so that we can do some mini lessons, research, VR, etc. I will keep you posted and will be scheduling library orientations soon!
Newbies- I'd like to visit with all of you late next week or sometime the following week. Let me know if you have any questions now and I'll make time for all of you to learn about access points, databases, and fun opportunities in the library!
COMPUTER LAB
This summer I replaced the old computer lab desktops with 25 new desktop computers! These are made by the same company and run the same software (Windows 10) as the teacher laptops. That means they work just like the new teacher laptops. They are set up to print in the lab and you are welcome to come by anytime to work at an open computer.
There are 3 color printers on the campus for teachers to use. They are in the teacher workroom, the portable building teacher workroom, and the computer lab. Also, there is a desktop computer in the teacher workroom and in the portable teacher workroom for you to use with the printers.
I am organizing the student computer devices (Chromebooks and Samsung tablets) and will be distributing them to teachers starting next week.
The computer lab will not be open for students the first week of school. I am targeting Monday, 8/27, as the first day the lab will be open for classes. Stay tuned!
It will be about 2 weeks before I have time to start setting up the Doss funded software programs for our students (Accelerated Reading, Imagine Math, Moby Max, etc). It usually takes 2-3 weeks after school starts for AISD to set up the programs they provide (iSation, myOn, Mackinvia, Learning.com, etc.). I will send out email updates when each of these programs is available. Please contact James if you have any questions.
