Hello everyone,
I do hope 2019 has started well for you and your students. Are you ready for online global collaboration this semester? We are!
The message in this global newsletter is 'Let's reach for the stars and make the world a better place!' Don't let anyone tell you it is too hard, or impossible, or unattainable. We are a global community and here to help each other.
Flat Connections is offering FOUR online global projects this semester for Grade 3 and older. Plan to apply NOW. Brief summary here - scroll down for more details -:

Announcing - Flat Connections Global Projects for 2019-1 - Starting February/March
Global Collaborators Information Webinar and Project kickoff for 2019, February-May global projects

YOU are invited to join Julie Lindsay and Flat Connections global collaborators to help kick off the 2019-1 global projects. This session is designed to help those new to global collaboration understand how Flat Connections designs and implements global projects for classrooms across the world. It will also provide specific information to those registered for global projects this semester.
So, come along one and all - come and learn about online global collaborative projects and how you can embed them into your classroom learning. Please RSVP via this invitation!

Windows to the World - Grade 3-6
The Windows to the World global project is an intercultural ‘penpals’ experience where students in Grade/Year 3-6 (8-12 year old) write, respond, and communicate with peers, and develop online learning and digital citizenship skills. Tools like Edmodo and Padlet are used for communication and interaction between students leading to collaborative outcomes.
The Windows to the World project focuses on developing literacy and online communication skills while connected beyond the immediate classroom. The topics shared and discussed are real-world scenarios that aim to pique interest amongst students as to similarities and differences between classes and cultures.

Friends for Sustainability - Grade 5-8
The Friends for Sustainability Project is for students in Grade/Year 5-8, of approximate ages 10-14. Students connect, communicate, explore global topics and issues and share ideas and solutions through co-created digital artifacts.
The Friends for Sustainability Project curriculum focus is Interdisciplinary, including concepts for how we live, how we communicate, cultural understanding and global awareness and uses the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a focus for global issues. The project also uses Design Thinking as a model to foster better understanding of the process of collaboration.

Poetry with Passion and Performance - Grade 3-6
Turn all your students into successful poets!
The Poetry with Passion and Performance project is for Grade/Year 3-6 (approximate age 8-12). It has been created by the award-winning Australian educator Chris Trimnell, a Flat Connections Global Educator and Project Manager.
Poetry with Passion and Performance is designed to ensure student success by using carefully scaffolded poetry examples. Students will enjoy having a genuine audience as they are allocated to teams representing students beyond their own classroom walls. The final challenge will be to use any multimedia of their choice to co-create new versions of the poems with fellow team members.

Global Youth Debates - Grade 5-12
Global Youth Debates joins school debate teams in a community of learners around a theme and debate topic. Asynchronous formal debating supports communication of local and global situations and priorities.
Global Youth Debates is adaptable for all learning environments and is designed for students of age 10-18. It opens eyes and hearts as students debate on an issue that will bring together diverse ideas, develop transferable skills and create lasting friendships.

If you are on Facebook please come and join the Global Educators and Collaborators Group. With over 400 members now it is a great place to reach out and find global partners. You can post your own projects and find new opportunities.
Global Leadership Summit - March 15 in Chicago
If you can get to Chicago on March the 15th this is one event not to be missed! It is organised by GlobalEd Events (Lucy Gray and Steve Hargadon) in partnership with ASCD.
Terry Godwaldt, Executive Director, the Centre for Global Education will deliver the opening keynote address, “Supporting Student Agency in a Rapidly Changing World."

A message from Digital Promise...
Help Students Share Their Stories with 360° Media Production Kits
Recognizing the experiential storytelling potential of immersive technologies like virtual reality, Digital Promise Global, the United Nations SDG Action Campaign, and Oculus have launched MY World 360°, supporting youth worldwide to create 360° media as a way to share their perspectives and advance positive action toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
As part of MY World 360°, Digital Promise Global is providing a limited number of 360° media production kits to support schools and youth organizations around the world to create 360° media. Educators working with young people (ages 5–24) to create media that relates to the goals of MY World 360° and who lack access to 360° media production equipment are invited to apply by pitching their students’ story ideas.

About Flat Connections Subscriptions.....

Which subscription is best for you and your classroom or school?
If you are a single global teacher in a school the TEACHERPRENEUR subscription gives you access to our global community and to one project for one semester.
If you have 2-3 of classrooms (at any level or mixed levels, up to 50 students) who want to join (to one or more projects) the BRONZE subscription is best for you.
If you have a variety of student groups across levels and across projects, up to 100 students, the SILVER subscription gives you great flexibility to mix and match.
The GOLD subscription is for those schools who are really focused on global collaborative learning and building intercultural understanding and global competency into their whole school programs.
