Your Weekly BGS PTO News & Happenings
We met a bunch of new families at Wednesday night's PTO Meeting. Our full minutes will be shared next week, but we can share a few highlights:
- Mrs. Binford filled us in on our school theme for 2018-19 - Attitude of Gratitude - and how that will be incorporated into lessons. Plus she shared some upcoming activities our kids can look forward to like the Fire Truck Visit & the PTO Sponsored Anti-Bullying Assembly.
- We took a look at the PTO Budget for the year and shared more about our Mini-Grant program, the Gaga Ball Pit we're working on getting installed, and efforts to get our sound system repaired in the gym.
- We also spent some time brainstorming ideas for our October Read-a-Thon, Halloween Hoot, & Thanksgiving Feast.
If you couldn't make the meeting, we hope you'll join us for our next one on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 PM. If you'd like to get more involved with the PTO, we encourage you to take a peek at our list of open chair person positions (just click the image at right). We'd love to have your fresh ideas!
- Kelly & Briana, BGS PTO Co-Presidents
Thank You!
This week's Scholastic Book Fair has been hopping! We appreciate all of our volunteers who dedicated their time to helping make the shopping hours a success for our Bears.
Special thanks to our Book Fair chairs, Lauren Ravi & Jenniffer Runyon, for their leadership in getting the sale up and running!
Homeroom Parents Selected
Thanks to all who turned out for our Homeroom Parent Information Session on Wednesday. Our Homeroom Coordinators, Jenn Winchock and Sally Bartlett, have wrapped up the random lottery to identify Homeroom Parents in the classes where more than 3 people volunteered. They'll be emailing all of the volunteers shortly to confirm what parents are representing which rooms.
On Behalf of Homeroom Parents: Request for Class Funds
Our Homeroom Parents help to coordinate class celebrations and recognize the teaching staff throughout the year. To offset the costs of these activities AND limit how many times throughout the year that parents are asked for funds for teacher gifts, our Homeroom Parents request a single contribution of $20 per student just once at the beginning of the year. This covers 3 gifts for the teachers in the classroom, as well funds some small supplies for the class parties.
You can pay for class funds easily online via our Sign Up Genius. If you prefer to send it through school, be sure to include a note with your child's name, the teacher's name, and mark the envelope "ATTN: Class Parent - Class Funds".
Please note, class funds are NOT the same as PTO membership and go directly to your class parents.
Back to School Night
Bradley Gardens will be having our Back to School Night on October 4, 2018. The doors will open at 6:00 pm. Just a reminder, this is a parent only event-please arrange for childcare. The schedule will run as follows:
•Pre-K, K. AM/PM 6:15-7:00 pm
•Grades 3-4 6:15-7:00pm
•Special Area Visits 6:15-7:15 pm
•Grades 1-2 7:15-8:00 pm
We hope to see you there.
Sponsor a Trunk at the Halloween Hoot!
Our Halloween Hoot planning team is getting everything lined up for this year's event. If you'd like to host a trunk during our Trunk or Treat that night, Oct. 26, let us know by signing up here.
Stay tuned for additional details about the Halloween Hoot in next week's Friday Features.
Clean Your Closets for a Cause
Did your kids grow inches over the summer and now NOTHING fits? Don't let those outgrown clothes sit in a corner any longer. Gather up all of your clean, gently worn clothing and donate it to our $1, $2, $3 Clothing Sale! Items should be in good condition and preferably bagged by size. Kids, women's, and men's clothes, shoes, accessories, Halloween costumes, coats, etc. - we'll take it all! Donations will be accepted the evening of Oct. 18 and throughout the day on Oct. 19. The sale runs for one day only on Saturday, Oct. 20.
This long-standing BGS tradition helps you clean your closets, helps those in need, and helps the school by raising funds that contribute to events such as the Brain Show and teacher enrichments.
Your sorting, folding and merchandising skills are needed throughout the day on Friday, Oct. 19. Assistance is also needed to help organize during the sale on Saturday, Oct. 20. Come for an hour or come all day - we'd love to have you! Let us know you can help by signing up here if you're interested in joining our team!
Become a Member of the PTO
Our PTO Membership drive continues! We encourage all families, faculty, and other members of our school community to join us and help make BGS a great place to learn. Membership dues are a key part of how we raise funds for assemblies, equipment, field trip subsidies, staff appreciation and family fun nights.
Only PTO members are listed in our school directory and will receive electronic access to the directory, which is invaluable in planning playdates and parties. This year, PTO membership also gives you exclusive access to limited edition spirit kits (see below for details).
Total dues for the school year are $15 per family. Skip the hassle of sending cash or checks in via backup by pay dues online via our Sign Up Genius - either opt for a membership/spirit wear combo or just membership. If you prefer to send it with your child instead, print off the Spirit Wear form below and just indicate $15 for dues. Send it in an envelope labelled "PTO Membership".
Spirit Kit Sale Continues
Order before Oct. 12 to take advantage of this offer.
Our Spirit Kits this fall are exclusive for PTO Members to order. The kit includes a limited edition BGS Spirit Tee (including our school theme - "An Attitude of Gratitude"), plus a BGS water bottle and sling style backpack. Save the hassle of paper forms and checks by ordering and paying via our online form. If you do prefer paper, checks can be made out to BGS PTO and your order forms returned in an envelope marked "PTO Membership/Spirit Wear". Click the image at right for an additional form should you need it.
Order options include a membership & spirit kit combo ($30 - one per family), additional kits for the same family ($20 each - extended adult sizes an extra $3.50 for sizes 2XL-4XL), as well as a PTO Membership only ($15 per family per year).
Though this spirit kit is a great value for your money, we do understand it's not for everyone. If you're interested in a spirit tee only, stay tuned for future spirit wear sales.
For questions about membership or spiritwear, please contact Kelly or Briana at bgsptopresident@gmail.com.
