February is BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

The month of February brings the start of a new semester and the beginning of the Black History Month celebration at Loiederman. To begin our celebration, the Loiederman SGA is celebrating Black Lives Matter week from February 1st to February 5th. You can read more about our plans for each day of celebration here. The SGA is collecting information on local Black and African American businesses for Small Business Tuesday. If you know of a business that you would love to suggest and promote, please feel free to fill out this Google form and share their information with us. We will be featuring this resource for the Loiederman community during the month of February! https://forms.gle/vmfTjrSsynovfzWEA

We will have additional activities recognizing and commemorating Black History Month as we progress through the weeks like opportunities to participate in a book study of the children's version of Stamped by authors Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds during our student advisory periods.

We want to acknowledge the Board of Education’s unanimous decision in favor of beginning the return to in-person learning for MCPS students and staff. We are finalizing our return plans for Loiederman staff and students and are looking at the date of February 25th to hold a virtual meeting where we will share our plan with families whose students plan to return. We will confirm that date and provide a time and zoom link once we have approval to do so. We will also record the session and post on our website for those families who are interested in hearing about the plan. For students remaining virtual, there will be little impact on their experience and they will remain with their same teachers they have had all year.

Material Distribution

We will be distributing second semester Math and English textbooks this Wednesday, February 3, from 9:00 - 2:00. Please check with your student to make sure you know what math class they are currently taking. When you pull through the bus loop, please have a sign that lets our volunteers know the math class and grade level of your student(s). We have textbooks for all math classes (except for Geometry and AIM classes) and textbooks for all English classes. These books are designed to support instruction in class, but they are not required for your student to be able to successfully participate in class so you do not have to come pick them up if you are unable. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jon D'Souza at jonathan_m_d'souza@mcpsmd.org or contact the main office at (240)740-5830.
