The Hasty Howler
April- Parent Engagement Newsletter
From the Principal - Dr. Rosario-Regan
Spring is Here! It is hard to believe that we only have about 35 days remaining of school and instruction. It is unbelievable to me how quickly the year has flown- I am so fortunate to be able to serve such a wonderful community. Please remind your scholars that while the end of spring brings the excitement of summer, they need to finish strong academically and socially. Stay tuned for more information regarding end of year celebration opportunities!
As you all know, students in grades 3-5 will be taking the Georgia Milestones Assessment this year. It is scheduled for late April and go through the middle of May. Georgia Milestones is designed to provide students with critical information about their own achievement and their readiness for their next level of learning – be it the next grade. To ensure your scholar is prepared for the assessment, please make sure that your student gets get a good night of sleep and is well rested and arrives to school on time to have breakfast in the morning.
We hope that each one of you have a wonderfully relaxing and fun Spring Break with plenty of opportunities to build deeper connections as a family.
Please read the remainder of the newsletter and look for updates for the month of April and enjoy the many resources included in the newsletter.

Tips for Parents and Families
Nurse Tips
Warmer months are ahead. This means our bodies will be exposed more to the sun. When skin is exposed to the sun, our bodies make Vitamin D, which helps the body absorb calcium for stronger, healthier bones. It only takes a little time in the sun for most people to get the vitamin D they need (and most vitamin D needs should be met with a healthy diet and/or supplements).
Too much unprotected exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause skin damage, eye damage, immune system suppression, and skin cancer. Even people in their twenties can develop skin cancer. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends that all kids — regardless of their skin tone — wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Whatever sunscreen you choose, make sure it's broad-spectrum (protects against both UVA and UVB rays) and, if kids are in or near water, is labeled water-resistant. Apply a generous amount and re-apply often.
