Vikings Counselor Connection
Schreiber Guidance Department Newsletter - September 2021
Welcome Back!
Hello Schreiber families! I hope that you are enjoying these last few days of summer break and are ready for the new school year. The counselors and I are excited to see the students in a few days. Students are the heart of every school, and with the recent buzz of freshmen touring the halls, things are beginning to feel as they should. Here in the Guidance department, we are busy preparing for the next few days and weeks. This newsletter will keep you updated with current information but please be sure to check the Guidance page on the Schreiber website and students' Naviance accounts as well. The counselors and I are looking forward to a great year of supporting all students' academic, social-emotional, and college/career development. As always, we appreciate your support and partnership.

Social Emotional Learning
Welcome Ms. Garcia!
This year, Schreiber Guidance begins a new initiative in the area of social emotional learning. Our new counselor, Ms. Vanessa Garcia, will deliver lessons to 9th and 10th graders that focus on four pillars that build the skills needed to be successful. The four pillars are: Stress Management, Resilience, Growth Mindset, and Emotional Intelligence. Lessons will begin with freshmen the week of September 23rd, and students will be notified in advance. We welcome Ms. Garcia to Schreiber and are eager to begin this work with students.

Change your mindset, change your life!
Curious? Good! Watch one or both of the videos (one in Spanish, one in English) for more information. Now that you know more about having a growth mindset, what are some ways this might work for you? What is your mindset as we kick off the new school year?
