The Marines Are Coming!
On Friday, October 18th Mesa Verde Middle School will host about 40 Marines for a “boot camp” style fitness challenge during our PE classes! Students will have the opportunity to go through four stations including a tire flip, obstacle course, running relay and a tug of war event. Our fantastic PE Team along with the USMC School Liaison Program and the Single Marine Program are making this unique experience available for our students. The Marines are members of the Single Marine Program which serves as the voice for the single Marines in identifying Quality of Life concerns, developing Quality of Life initiatives, and providing recommendations through advocacy, recreational activities, special events and community involvement. The program encourages single Marines to provide input and ideas toward programming. Some special events include Barracks Bashes, BBQs, cruises, fishing trips, amusement parks, and more. Community involvement activities include our most popular PE/Fitness Challenge as well as Habitat for Humanity, retirement home visits, dog adoption events, and beach clean ups.
We have nearly 60 students here at Mesa Verde with a parent in the military! Thank you for your service to our country. Have you heard of the School Liaison Program? The mission of the USMC School Liaison Program is to identify and coordinate community resources to reduce the impact of the mobile military lifestyle on military school-age children and families; to implement predictable support services that assist children/youth with relocations, life transitions and achieving academic success; and to provide a wide range of resources to facilitate school transitions to parent, students, schools, commanders, and communities. Parents are welcome to attend the event after checking in at the office for a visitor’s pass. Unfortunately, parents are not permitted to participate in the event per the Marine Corps.
