PHYSCIAL EDUCATION Update
April 2018
APRIL SHOWERS BRING --- Green Grass to the GOLF COURSE
Students will be participating in a golf unit and disc golf unit to finish out the year. These will be the last assessed skills for the year. OES received brand new equipment last year that was donated by several wonderful golfers from our community. Our disc golf equipment was donated from Jake Mott and sponsor, an Oskaloosa resident and in the pro disc golf league.
These units take us up to the middle of May. The last few weeks of PE, I enjoy taking the students outside to play some bocce ball and soak up the sun.
I'll have a May newsletter next month to close out the school year.

5TH GRADE TRACK MEET - TUESDAY, MAY 8, 2018
Thursday, May 10, 2018 -- RAIN DATE make up
During out last PE class, students in my PE classes signed up for the 5th grade track meet. This is an exciting event for our 5th graders and getting them signed up early, gives them all a chance to practice and prepare for this exciting day.
I will be sending home a volunteer form for those that are able to help us on the day of the track meet. I have you at the field event your child has signed up for. I have also included a google form in this newsletter for you to use if you are able.
I will send home more information as we go through April.
Let me know if you have any questions about this event. It is part of our PE class and all students will be participating.
I help them make good decisions as to which events they will succeed in. This is also a good opportunity for them to try something new. Many times students enjoy this event so much that they want to sign up for the Live Healthy Iowa Track Meet later in May.

SPRING FITNESS TESTING
We have kicked off our spring fitness tests with the PACER test. The students really enjoy this test. We ask that they do the best they can in this test.
Students in 3rd - 5th grade will participate in the 1 mile run endurance test. The 3rd graders advanced from the 1/2 mile to the 1 mile run this spring.
Students will also complete a push-up, curl-up and sit and reach test as well.
These tests are NOT graded. We use these results to see areas that need improvement. The hope is that students finish in the healthy fitness zone for a kid their age. If they don't, students know areas they can work on over the summer to try to improve and get into the HFZ in the fall.
My ONLY expectation is that students TRY and do THE BEST THEY CAN DO.

K-2 INFO
Students in K-2 will be participating in golf and disc golf too. I brought back some fun new games while I was in Nashville, TN, at a PE conference and I am excited for the students to test them out.
