A Message from the Administration

New Reporting System (grades K-4)

by Walter Nardelli

With the development of a new reporting system, parents will have more information about the progress their child is making than ever before. Students will be instructed and assessed against specific concepts and skills rather than receiving a single grade. Students will know and reflect on their strengths and weaknesses. Teachers will be able to provide targeted instruction to meet student’s needs. As a team, parents, students and teachers will all be able to help each child achieve high standards.

A special thanks to the organizers and the dozens of volunteers for these events . What makes events like these so important is that they bring in visitors from beyond our school community.

Spark Academy

Students in grades 5-8 have an opportunity to participate in the Thursday Spark Academy, an after-school applied learning program. Sessions run for 5 weeks from 3:00 p.m - 4:30 p.m. with our third session starting December 4th and ending January 15th. These small group classes will be facilitated by school faculty and staff. The after-school bus will provide transportation home for our students.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that can be found on the link below. In order to take full advantage of this learning opportunity, students will need to make a commitment to attend all five Thursdays. The dates of the session are: December 4th, 11th, and 18th and January 8th and 15th. Students will be placed on a first come first serve basis. If a student has an unexcused absence from a class, we may ask that he/she no longer attend the session, as there are other students who want to participate.

Please access the link to the sign-up form below by December 2nd.

Health Office

The 2013-2014 VT Elementary School Oral Health Survey Report is now posted on the Health Department’s website, here is the link:

Strep throat is a common type of sore throat in children, but it's not very common in adults. Healthcare professionals can do a quick test to determine if a sore throat is strep throat and decide if antibiotics are needed. Proper treatment can help you feel better faster and prevent spreading it to others!

People with strep throat should stay home from work, school, or daycare until they have taken antibiotics for at least 24 hours so they don't spread the infection to others.
