Dear Parents and Families of North Street School,
Hello amazing North Street Families! What an exciting time of year. We are eagerly anticipating the start to another fantastic year at NSS! This is sure to be our best year yet! We hope you are enjoying your summer and that this newsletter will provide you with everything you need to get ready for the start to the new school year. You will also receive a weekly NSS Newsletter from me each Friday. Be sure to read the updates and check out photos of what is happening at school during the week.
We have spent the summer preparing for the return of our wonderful students and staff as well as welcoming our new Dragons to the NSS Community, and we are eagerly awaiting everyone’s arrival in the building! Our goal is to work together with our families and staff to provide an engaging, safe, healthy, successful and rigorous learning experience for all of our students. We have set very high expectations and plans have been made with student safety and success as our top priority!
Please feel free to reach out to your classroom teacher, myself or Mrs. McEvily at any time with any questions or concerns. We aim to work together with our parents as partners in learning.
Please join us in welcoming some new staff members-
Ms. Paloma Perez is returning as a kindergarten teacher after an amazing year in K last year.
Jenna Stanczyk is our new part time Social Worker.
Peri Susan Pfenninger is our new art teacher.
Rachel Gryak is our new part time FLES teacher.
Please take some time to read all of the information in this newsletter as it is important in preparation for the new school year. Please read the section on The First Day of School carefully for information on what that will look like for grades 1-5, Kindergarten and Pre-K.
Please be sure to send your child to school with a healthy, hearty snack and lunch, unless they are buying lunch in the cafe.
Lunch will no longer be free for all students. Families in need of free lunch should fill out the required forms posted on our back to school webpage. School lunch is $4.15 this year.
Enjoy the last few days of summer vacation and we look forward to seeing everyone very soon!
Sincerely,
Your Leadership Team
Jill Flood and Jessica McEvily

New Student and Family Orientation, Wednesday, August 31

All Kindergarten students and new students in grades 1-5 will meet in the NSS Dragon Cafe at 10:00am for a quick welcome before heading to the classrooms for a visit.

Back to School Picnic, August 31 at 11:00AM! Please join us for our Annual Back to School Picnic on the back fields!

The First Day of School
The first day of school is Thursday, September 1. It is a full day. Arrival begins at 8:30 for all students in grades 1-5.
We will have our first through fifth graders head straight to the blacktop behind the gym for a Ringing In Ceremony. The teachers will meet the students there to greet them and walk them in to school as a class after the ceremony. Parents are welcome to join us on the blacktop.
For the first day of school only, arrival for Kindergarten will be at 9:30. This is so we can have a special, separate arrival and Ringing In for our youngest learners on the first day of school. We will meet the kindergarten students and families outside on the center island for a quick welcome and then they will enter the building together with their teacher and classmates.
For the first day of school only , arrival for PreK will be at 9:45. The teachers will meet the Pre K students and their families outside near the main front doors at 9:45 and walk them in together as a class.
Arrival for K-5 will be from 8:30-8:45 starting on the second day and for the remainder of the year.
Arrival for PreK- will be from 8:45-9:00 starting on the second day and for the remainder of the year.
During arrival and dismissal, staff will be stationed at the designated parent drop off/pick up and bus arrival/departure areas to help ensure the students enter the building safely. Please review the Parent Drop-off and Pick Up Procedures carefully. They are included in this newsletter as well as posted on the Back to School Webpage.
