Lange's Metalmark Butterfly

The Lange's Metalmark Butterfly is endemic to California since 1976. They are very fragile. There has been an estimate of 131 butterflies in 2008 and by 2011 there has been only 25-30 left.
They are found in Sand Dunes in California. They are becoming extinct because of loss of habitat caused by invasive exotic plants which are eliminating its food. A nonprofit environmental group has been breeding the butterflies and plan on releasing caterpillars into the sand dunes.
