Attendance

A HUGE thank you to our families and students for their work on getting to school on-time and everyday! We understand that illness happens and appreciate parents who keep sick kids home. That said, with so much illness this year, family vacations and other absences add up and have a direct impact on student learning. Our first round of attendance tracking was in November and we just wrapped up another round this week. I am excited to report that according to our data (of students below the 90% attendance rate) over 51% of our students in that group have made continuous growth in their attendance the past few months! Of that same group, 18% are now at the 90% goal set by the Oregon Department of Education. This is amazing! Thank you, thank you, thank you! We love having your child(ren) here each day and remain ready and willing to help any families that could use our support!

News from Hawks View PAC

  • Chess Club Reminder: There is NO Chess Club next Thursday 1/26. It is canceled for that day and will resume the following Thursday.

  • Interested in helping out at HV? Please contact volunteers@hawksviewpac.org. Some of the opportunities for getting involved in the next several months include Staff Appreciation Week, Popcorn Fridays, Bulletin Boards, Carnival and lots more.

  • We have raised over $2,600 this year for Dinner Night Out! A big thank you to everyone who has enjoyed a dinner (or treat!) out in our community and supported HV PAC! There are still several more scheduled for the remainder of the school year.

Save the Date! Kinder Open House

If you have an incoming kindergartener for the 2023-2024 school year, please mark your calendars! The Sherwood School District Kindergarten Open House will be held on March 2nd, 3:30 to 6:00pm. More information will be made available in the coming weeks. Please pass this information along to anyone you know who may not receive these email updates.

Free Vision Screening for All Students

We will be giving a free vision screening to all students at Hawks View on Tuesday, February 7. The testing will be done by the Lions Club with volunteers using the SPOT screening devices. The test is painless, is done from a distance, and does not touch your child’s eyes or face.

Results come to us in about a week. Most children pass the exam, and due to the volume of paperwork, we will only send home results for students who do not pass the exam (results sent via backpack mail). If you want a copy of “passing” results, please contact our office to request. Screening results for all students will also go in their school file.

If you do not want your child to participate in this free vision screening (ie, if you want to opt-out your child) please contact the school office. If you have any questions about the vision screening, please call Health Services at 503-825-5093.

Financial assistance may be available if you need an eye exam and/or glasses for your child.

Free Dental Screenings for Children Age Seven and Younger

Dear Parent/Guardian: We will have free dental screenings by local Dentist Dr. JJ Bittner and/or Dr. Kendra Flann at Hawks View Elementary on February 17th, for children age seven or younger who have not been to a dentist. This is a screening only and no treatment will be given. You may already have turned in a form to your school to say that your child has been to a dentist, or that the screening is against your family’s beliefs -- if so, your child will not be screened. If your child is screened, results will be sent to you in backpack mail and also go into the student file. If you wish to opt-out of the screening, please contact your school office.

For more information about the screening call Health Services at 503-825-5088. Good dental care contributes to the overall good health of our students!
