Teens start smoking at a a very young age, and one of the influences is the media. You can find smoking ads in magazines, teens then see it and think that it's cool to smoke. Also teens see celebrities smoking all the time and they think that its okay to do it because famous people do it.
Magazines
This is a cigarette ad you can find in any magazine. It's convincing kids to smoke it because it says that it's a "healthy cigarette." It says that American Spirit is 100% additive-free. But what teens don't know is that one cigarette can get you addicted for life and what health concerns come with smoking.
Celebrities
There are pictures of celebrities smoking everywhere. When kids see their favorite celebrity smoke it can send a message to them that smoking is cool and acceptable. Which is not a good message to send to teens/kids.
How it affects your health
Smoking can effect all 4 of your major systems. Your respiratory, nervous, cardiovascular, and digestive system. In your respiratory system it can increase mucus production and decrease muscle action in airway. In your nervous system it can decrease some reflex actions and mimic neurotransmitters. In your cardiovascular system it can increase blood pressure and reduce blood flow to skin. And finally smoking can affect your digestive system by increasing saliva production and increase bowel activity. Those are just a few examples of how smoking can affect you and there are many more.
Conclusion
In conclusion, smoking is a action that is detrimental to your health. There are many causes of smoking and influences then can cause teens/kids to smoke. Luckily, the numbers have been decreasing every year and hopefully our generation will put smoking to an end once and for all.
