Weekly Newsletter
This week, I'd like to highlight two of El Camino's scholar athletes. Congratulations to McCall Dame and Molly Souza for signing their National Letter of Intent last week at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre in San Diego. Both McCall and Molly participated in the College National Letter of Intent Announcement & Signing Day where student-athletes from throughout San Diego County announce where they will be playing sports at the collegiate level and sign their National Letters of Intent.
McCall will be attending Brigham Young University to run Cross Country as well as Track and Field. Molly will be playing Water Polo at the University California Santa Barbara. Join me in congratulating these two amazing athletes!
November Rising Star - Joseph Molano
CONGRATULATIONS to our ECHS November Chamber of Commerce Rising Star - Joseph Molano! Joseph struggled tremendously during the pandemic and school closures. Being home and unable to connect with teachers and peers was extremely difficult. Despite the setback, Joseph returned to in-person learning with a fiery determination, enrolling in 2 Advanced Placement classes and remediating 45 credits. In addition, Joseph enrolled in 2 community college classes to pursue coursework in Computer Science. Through his hard work and dedication, Joseph has raised his GPA making him a candidate for graduation with Honors. He is also enrolled in 3 additional AP classes and 2 additional community college classes this year. Joseph is in the process of applying to UC’s and CSU’s with the goal of pursuing a 4-year degree in Computer Science. He will be the first in his family to go straight to a 4-year university. We honor Joseph because he represents all that is a Rising Star!
Thank you to the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and all the sponsors who work so hard each month to recognize amazing seniors from each high school in our district!

Dual Enrollment Info Session, MiraCosta College Community Learning Center
On Wednesday, December 7th at 6:00 pm, join MiraCosta College staff at the Community Learning Center at 1831 Mission Avenue to learn about the Dual Enrollment program and complete the registration process! This is a family event and FREE food will be provided.
Dual enrollment allows high school students to take college classes at their high schools and/or online. Students get credits toward BOTH the high school diploma and college transcript. You are encouraged to register by using this link: https://bit.ly/3X38s3k.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
More than 80% of qualified students who do not enroll in college cited that its cost and the need for financial aid was a key barrier. Yet, many students never applied for financial aid. Students who fill out FAFSA have 72% higher odds of persisting towards college than their peers who do not file. The window to complete the FAFSA opened on October 1st.
Existing law requires school districts to ensure that 12th grade students complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid or, if the pupil is exempt from paying nonresident tuition under existing law, completes and submits a form for purposes of the California Dream Act. This law was created to ensure that students who plan on attending a College or University have adequate access to funding opportunities that may be afforded to the student and their family.
If you have questions about completing the FAFSA, please reach out to our College & Career Center at 760-901-8051 or contact your student's counselor.

If so, come join Mr. John Moffat right here in the ECHS Truax Theater to learn about up-to-date trends in technology. This meeting is open to ALL parents, guardians, and caregivers of students TK-12.
Attendance Office & Student Pick-up Times
Because there is frequently a heavy volume of departure requests at the end of the day, the Attendance Department is unable to call students out of their classes during the last 20 minutes of the school day.
If you need your student to be dismissed after 3 p.m. (2:30 on Wednesdays), please plan to call the Attendance Department ahead of time (760-901-8002). This will need to be arranged earlier in the day to have time to pull your student from class. Your student will then receive a dismissal pass that will allow them to leave early.
