Welcome back to Term 3. A warm welcome to Harley and his family. We wish them happy school days at SCS. Welcome also to Melissa Bryant who joins us this term and will be teaching in Te Tipu until the end of the year. It's great to have Melissa join our team, and know she is a great fit for our school. We also welcome Bec Boniface who is with us for three weeks as a teacher's aid. It's great to have Bec working with us.
We continue to have staff impacted with sickness, both COVID and seasonal flu. Please understand that we are working very hard to cover any staffing absences and there is currently very limited reliever availability across Marlborough. We will do all we can to keep classes operating as normal. If staffing levels are unsafe, we will need to move to home learning. While this is the last resort, it is something that may happen in the coming weeks. Please as always, if your child is unwell, keep them at home.
Congratulations to all the runners who participated in the Wairau Cluster Cross Country at the end of the last term. Lena, who finished first (by a large margin!) in the Year 6 girls' race, has been selected to represent the school at Interschool Cross Country on 9 August. We wish her all the best for the day.
We had Learning Conferences, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who attended these. We have had to reschedule the Ngā Whetū conferences until next week. You will have been contacted by the office to reschedule your time. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility around this unavoidable change.
A reminder that our School Board Elections are underway. Details are further down in the newsletter. Nominations close next Wednesday 3 August. Please consider putting your name forward or nominating someone. We need great people, like you, to step up and help lead our school into the future.
Next Monday school will be CLOSED for a staff-only day. Staff will all be participating in training on this day.

Term 3 Mask Wearing
For the start of Term 3, 2022, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health strongly recommend that all schools require mask wearing in all indoor settings (where it will not have a significant impact on teaching and learning – see below) for students in Year 4 and above.
This recommendation does not include any situation where mask-wearing might not be practicable, such as while eating and drinking, playing certain musical instruments, indoor sports, where it will have a significant impact on teaching and learning (for example, students with particular learning needs), certain activities such as singing or drama performance on stage, and PE. In these situations, particular attention should be paid to ensuring there is good ventilation during the activity and physical distancing where practicable.
In line with the recommendations, we will be ensuring that the staff working with Year 4-6 children are wearing masks, and encourage our Year 4-6 children to wear masks.

MYLD 2022 - an opportunity for our Year 6's
Community Consultation Feedback
We have collated the responses and the staff and board have looked through them.
Feedback on the SCS Curriculum was very positive. We will ensure that we make links to the local community resources and people clear, as this is an important part of this SCS Curriculum. Edible Gardens and nutrition is also an area we will ensure is shared specifically.
Everyone was very proud of the school. We have revisited our hui award systems to ensure families are contacted when a family is getting an award.
Thank you for your feedback. We really value this and use it to improve all we do.
