New Year's Resolutions
#1 resolution is to lose weight
Why do we continue to make resolutions and break them?
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just (righteous) to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He is presupposing we have sins to confess. Confess means to admit or to say. Why use the word faithful? Just (righteous)? If God says he's going to do something, he's going to do it. We don't have to wonder if he will remember. He will always do the right thing. Confess means to agree with God what our sins are.
Sometimes we feel like God must get tired of our "messes." However, this verse tells us that He will ALWAYS forgive us and cleanse us when we confess our sins. He does NOT say everything will be fixed and smooth sailing.
1 John 1:6
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked:who can know it?
Genesis 6:5
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Is it that we are not wholeheartedly giving s sin over to God? Are we holding on to a part of the sin that we are unwilling to give up?
Instead of comparing ourselves to Gods standard of perfection, we compare our sins to the sins of others.
Confession will restore the communion with God.
We so often say to ourselves, " I've screwed up so many times, God gets tired of forgiving me. ". We can be Percy in His eyes when we confess and accept His forgiveness.
