October News
Important Information
This year as a staff we are working on providing you with great communication! Our monthly school newsletter will now come digitally. We are excited to share with you the great things we do at our special school.
October is upon us, and learning is in full swing at Locust Street Expressive Arts Elementary! Each day I continue to be impressed by your children and our staff. Please check out our new Visiting Artist webpage https://www.cpsk12.org/Page/17343. This page showcases the integration happening at our school!
Thank you to our volunteers who came in on screen printing day. Our events and programs are successful because of your participation and support. We love it when parents are involved! Get to know your child's teacher and let her know of any concerns or worries your child may have. Teachers can be contacted informally with a phone call, Class Dojo, email or note!
Keep the communication going by asking your child specific questions; for example; What new words did you learn today? What technology did you use? What did you learn in integration today?
Sincerely, Mrs. Coggins

PTA News
Our Mission
The mission of the Locust Street PTA is to support learning for all students, advocate for the needs and well-being of the school community, and provide resources to children and their families. The Locust Street PTA works with students, teachers, and families to foster a community that values diversity and the arts in education through fundraising, supporting teachers and staff, and providing opportunities for the Locust Street Expressive Arts community to come together in an inclusive environment.
PTA Membership
Our goal this year is to have 100% family and teacher membership. Membership is only $5, but this small contribution can go a long way. If every Locust Street family and teacher had a PTA membership in 2018, we would have raised $1,780.00. Membership also covers your membership to the Missouri PTA and National PTA for advocacy for our children and their education. Please take the time to fill out the attached membership form and turn in your $5.
Ways to get involved
There are many different ways to be involved in the PTA! ● Share your opinion | Your voice helps decide who we are, so come to a meeting ● Attend a fundraising event | Get to know Locust Street families ● Volunteer | Even 30 minutes of your time can help ● Join the Leadership team | Help make decisions about what the PTA will do.
Treasurer Needed
We need a permanent PTA Treasurer to finish out the 2019-2020 school year. Our interim Treasurer will be leaving us before Christmas. The PTA Treasurer job includes keeping the budget up to date in easy-to-use software, writing checks and keeping receipts throughout the year, and providing financial updates at PTA meetings. It’s a job that easily works into any schedule and can be done mostly online.
Fundraising Chair Needed
The PTA Fundraising chair coordinates fundraising activities throughout the year, except for the Silent Auction which has its own chair. This includes reaching out to local businesses to schedule dine to donate events and coordinating our new Fall Sip ‘n Paint event. Coordination includes assigning tasks to other volunteers, advertising events via email, Friday Folders, and social media, and keeping track of event expenses.
