More October News
ELA and SS: Room 61
Hello Parents!
It is crazy to see how fast the year is going! Five weeks have come and gone and students are working harder than ever! Read below for important news, events and dates coming up soon!
Don't forget about our website!
Please remember that we use our website daily! It always has the latest news for each teacher along with the homework assignments for the week. If your child has forgotten his/her agenda, they can look up their assignments and still be prepared for class the next day!
Language Arts
Students have been reading different Greek myths, learning about heroes and the different key elements of mythology! Students even looked at a model essay this week to see what qualities a strong essay has. Students will actually be writing their first analytical essay in the next few weeks. We will be using our Percy Jackson novel, along with a classic myth to determine themes and key elements of mythology that are present. Students will also be peer editing to help their classmates come up with their best pieces of writing. Ask us about themes we see and how we know those themes are there!
Social Studies
We are continuing to learn more about Ancient Greece. In our library class, students are researching a specific god or goddess and creating a Google Slides presentation that they will share with the class. During this time, students are working on research standards along with technology skills. Eventually students will present their findings with the class and in turn will be enhancing their public speaking skills. Ask us about our progress and what types of sources we are using to find our information!
October Celebration
On Halloween we will be having a small celebration in our classroom. After our daily lesson, students will be able to pass out candy and treats to their classmates. If you would like to send in something please remember that it needs to be bought from the store and have all the nutritional information available. Paper products such as plates and cups are always needed too! Please let me know if you have any questions.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Be on the lookout for a blue conference sheet coming home with your child. Please fill out the conference sheet and send it back in with you child as soon as possible. Once Mrs. Bertholf and I have them back, we will begin contacting you for a time for the three of us to conference. We are looking forward to meeting with you and discussing how we can make this school year great!
